Weather rubbish so indoors again. Not complaining too much, enjoying Narcos.

Last day in the office for maybe a week. IPI conference tomorrow and Friday, don’t have to go too far for it, Tralee. Looking forward to getting the 3 pens in the goodie bag. Not quite the Oscars, or even the IFTAs, in terms of goodie bags, but at least there’s some skellig chocolates in the bag too.

Small bit of wind but can’t say it affected the run. Also had dried up today after last night. Park was wet though. Water near the bridge and then in the trees either side of the road as I headed for around by the lake. Then got stopped by water on the road, flooded. Tried the bridle path then but it was pure muck and didn’t fancy it in my runners.

As it turned out this distance was alright. Going around might have been too long for the iffy Achilles.

Bridge at the playground still blocked so back home via st Margaret’s road.

Note

Probably more of a chance of this week being interrupted. Achilles starting to feel a bit better and need to stretch the calves more. Legs feeling tired this morning. Saturday was probably a bit more of an effort than anything else recently. But i'm not factoring in a rest day this week.

Monday - Turbo (weather forecast is bad)
Tuesday - Running
Wednesday - Bike
Thursday - Running
Friday - Bike
Saturday - Bike
Sunday - Running (won't make Mahon Falls)

Weather bad. So as expected ended up on the turbo. Got worse during the day and stormy.

Legs grand and spin I found easy enough even for 2nd day in a row inside.

Bit of wind and showers going so was very much undecided on which bike to use. Getting back into bed I also saw as an option! Feeling tired after yesterday.

Weather forecast not great for tomorrow so probably more turbo tomorrow. Decided after Thursday evening to bike for the weekend, so will run on Tuesday, giving the Achilles a rest.

Once on the turbo and going the legs actually felt alright. Did feel like a bit of a struggle though at times but got to the end of the episode. This series definitely has more action.

Tour de Ballyfinnane 2018

Windy, both out and coming back in! Can’t say I’m surprised with the wind not cooperating.

Big enough front group but maybe not as many overall taking part this year than last. Made sure to be at the front this year so avoided any chasing.

With the headwind the pace wasn’t too high heading out to Inch but did increase after that.

Big effort needed after Annascaul, to the top of that hill, much more than was needed for Glannagealt, which wasn’t pushed at all. The descent then into Camp was fast on what was a bad road to start off with. Needed to work hard to stay attached.

Group had definitely lost bodies at this stage but still around 6 Tralee lads.

Legs were feeling tired by now. So had no idea what Farmers Bridge would be like.

Small group at the start of the climb, pace not too fast at the start. Conor went to the front and I stayed in his wheel for a bit until he just rode away. Not surprised with that. I’d mark for company who was on my wheel for most of it. Let him take a turn and then went ahead of him for the last bit. Caught conor after the summit as he eased up.

Then it was just the last push down hill to the finish.

Again a fast couple of hours. Legs definitely in better shape on the last climb than last 2 years, so a positive. Good fun.

That's weird, distance here is right but Strava is missing at least 1km. Anyways at least the time is right and it's not like I've never done this route before!

Legs felt tired, but still did alright. Headwind on the way up though so that didn't help the legs.

Back under 11 minutes for the climb so that's positive.

Issues with a tourist on the way down, lots of braking, and then they stopped dead at the tunnel, wasn't expecting that.

Just before then I passed a cyclist, recognised him, club mate. He wasn't going too fast though. But then after the straight and on the climb before 5 mile bridge I saw that he was behind me. After the bridge he went past, so I tried to grab his wheel, managed for a few seconds but the effort was too much. So eased back.

Caught him again after Dinis. He was doing 5 minute efforts. His efforts are above my level, but then again he's at least A2.

Went my direction for the rest of the spin.

Nice weather other than the headwind on the way up.

Achilles not great afterwards, noticeable during. Still enjoyed the run.

Big bank of cloud to the east but sun out over the lakes, win. And since the temperatures have finally risen a bit I decided to be brave and ran in shorts!
