Up Torc with Kieran

Not too bad weather wise, warm, but the odd touch of drizzle. No views towards Killarney from the top, limited to the Upper Lake and bits of Mangerton.

Legs feeling fine after yesterday.

Bee was very attracted to me on the way down, think wearing blue got its attention.

Pushed Erik in the buggy. Left him in his car seat in case of an accident, strapped in, and the one we bought provides 30% more protection in a car crash than the standard model, so just in case we left the road running today.

Started at the back and kept it slow on the gravelled section for the start but picked up the pace and passed the other buggy once onto tarmac. Just about saw the barrier by the school house on time too!

Starting at the back was a problem, meant that once I started running I was passing people, which I got caught up doing and just kept on doing it.

Wasn’t happy with Erik at the end, gave out to him for letting me run this fast. It was so not the plan. Don’t think there has been an adverse reaction on the calves but still not impressed he didn’t tell me to cop on.

Erik was kind to a few of those we passed out, gave them a smile as we went by them. Tougher up the hills but the downhills he flew.

Nice evening to be out on the bike. Traffic busy so slowed me through town. Wanted to be kind to the calves so did this route to avoid climb.

Pleased with the pace nonetheless.

Talk of a family outing to parkrun in the morning. Went onto their website to see if I could register Erik, get him started early in counting parkruns. BUT you have to be 4 years old to register!!! That is ageist, discriminating against the babies out there who want to run a 5k on a Saturday morning. I might have to write a strongly worded letter. How can I achieve my ambition of Erik winning parkrun in a buggy otherwise.

Physio 1:00:00 [0]

1st visit to the physio since May, so by avoiding running for June i've managed to not need physio. That being said she found my calves to be very tight. It wasn't a fun hour, never is.

Also got an appointment to get orthotics issue looked at, but not until September, which isn't ideal considering they'll take a few weeks to come too afterwards.

Note
(rest day)

With the calf being iffy after yesterday and since i've managed to get a physio appointment for tomorrow, took the day off training to rest the calf.

Knockreer

Nice evening for a run. Pleased enough with how I was feeling after the spin yesterday but less than 1km from Home left calf started to give out so eased up. Nothing too serious I imagine but not 100%. Probably won’t run for a few days anyway.

Put some effort in to the hill which has a KOM that I felt I wanted to have a go at. Didn’t hurt as much as the attempt at the one in Muckross a couple of weeks ago.

Disappointing for the calf to act up again. Considering 2 things, physio and also podiatrist. Think orthotics have probably run their course.

That horrible feeling when you realise that you've forgotten to restart your Garmin after stopping it!!! Lost 5.5km from the spin after I forgot to restart the Garmin when I put on my rain jacket. Sadly the weather turned before Loo Bridge, and was very damp and drizzly from there until Molls Gap. Was dry on the Killarney side of Molls Gap so at least that was something for the last half an hour home.

Legs not feeling too bad today but could feel some tiredness alright towards the end.

Felt ok on Molls Gap, happy with the tempo I set, but maybe could have pushed the HR a small bit higher. Legs tired at this stage which didn't help. Had a headwind from Loo Bridge to Kenmare so that didn't help for the lumpy bits.

At least it wasn't cold. Average speed over 30 too so where I want it.
