Oscar Daniel Burke
Born this evening weighing 3.96kg (8lbs 12oz)

Mother & baby both doing fine.

Will have an older brother to contend with at times so hopefully one or the other Burke will be IOC champion in a few years!

Sitting down pretty much all day apart from a very short stroll across the road so definitely a rest day. Plan postponed by 24 hours due to Patient 0 (also called Erik) passing the bug/virus he had the end of last week on to Mary! No sign I’ve caught it so may have dodged one.

Out the front window weather looked nice but clouds out the back window. Wasn’t a bad morning to be out. Also not windy this morning? Quiet enough in the National Park. Can’t say legs were feeling too strong, and body in general was maybe again suffering due to proximity of breakfast.

Good to get out, and have a few days away from training this week which should help the calf. But reason for the break might not help training :-)

Wind from the west i’d say, could feel it up high, and managed to only get a few drops of rain.

Plenty of bikes out and about, passed a couple, which helped motivation which was lacking to some extent today. Was happy enough moving but not much happening when I increased effort. Started not long after breakfast so don’t think that helps either when trying to increase effort on the hills.

Had a good ladies view descent, well 1st half anyway, after Derrycunnihy my concentration waned. Think it was down to having a car coming against me on the wrong side of the road before the bridge...
Not that close a call but not what I want to see when I turn a corner.

Wind at my back on the way down was good. Legs also started to feel tired nearing home.

(rest day)

Last day at work for 3 weeks and ended up taking a half day as Erik has a bit of a virus. Bad night of it too. So training wasn't on the cards despite there being a bit of a lull in the weather, not wind wise though, around usual training time.

Despite missing a bbq I still managed a big dinner.

Needed to get a wardrobe built so did that this evening. Straightforward enough.

Calf still feeling a small bit sore but getting better I think.

Pace not what I expected, felt like I was moving ok but who knows. The legs are still feeling the affects of Sunday so that might be the main factor. Calf sore but better after physio.

Wind of course on the menu with some drops of rain, roads mostly dry though.

On the road over to Dunloe there was a bike with a car behind it. One of the Race Around Ireland solo riders, Valerio Zamboni. As I approached the car moved out a bit then a lad came out the window with his phone videoing the cyclist. They'd got some music over their speakers too. So slowed me getting by.

I decided to stop then at Beaufort X to give him some encouragement. He apologised for screaming. But in my book he can do whatever he wants if it gets him back to the finish line in Trim.
