Note
(rest day)

Legs a small bit tired this morning which is a good thing. "Elevate for Strava" is saying my fitness trend is going down. Think it's down to not having proper HR data rather than anything else. That new strap and new running shoes I m still awaiting delivery of!

Going to keep going with alternating days of cycle/run. Help the legs and maybe help the mind too. I think I do need some HR data on my cycles as I feel that I am putting effort into them as it's not an easy lap, HR would confirm this.

Tuesday - Cycle
Wednesday - Run
Thursday - Cycle

Mangerton & Blue Pool

Interesting shape to the GPS track!

A mix of road, trails and off-road. Went up through the rough open on the other side of Mangerton Road to get up that, then ran alongside it in the recently burnt bit by the road before cutting down through the forest.

Then cross country through the rough part of Blue Pool to get a long lap of there done before back out again and up the road for a while before cutting the short way across to home except this time I came out onto the lane across from me.

Felt tired starting out but legs warmed up. They didn't feel fantastic though, don't think calves had much more in them.

Changed things up and had a buggy each rather than the one. Oscar has outgrown the pram part of it anyways. So made better progress as a result of less stops to calm him. Erik in the running buggy. Although this new arrangement upset Erik as Oscar was in “my buggy”.

Today’s o fixture would have been Ross Castle. Won’t get to take the annual photo at the finish. Would’ve been 2 kids to hold this year too!

Anticlockwise

18.06 (6.10)
18.13 (6.10)
18.21 (6.14)

Sort of consistent, losing a few seconds per lap but the hills were more consistent.

Definitely felt tired on the first lap but then improved when the legs were properly warmed up.

Head starting to go though, got to the start point of the 1st lap and was wondering what direction I wanted to go in today! Things didn't get better. Was climbing up Mangerton Road, just before my old place, when this very big dog came out of the lane before Park View. Looked again and realised it was actually a big stag, so very different species. To be fair he didn't have his antlers on this morning. Still more than 2 weeks of lockdown to go...

After yesterday afternoon's heavy rain it was still damp this morning but dried up for this spin :-)

Bluepool

Had a look to see what Strava segments were in the area since that's a popular past time these days. There are 2 in Bluepool but just tried the one. Got the CR so happy with that. Did a different loop slower then before coming home via the Abbey.

Made sure to cut the corner at Muckross Abbey, that junction is the limit of my 2km, didn't want to be straying.

Not as much sun out today, a small bit cloudy, but the forecasted rain hasn't arrived yet.

Body feeling ok. Tired legs though nearing home.

Clockwise

Set up the Garmin to take 9km splits, got the 1st one spot on but the 2nd was off, looks like the track cut a few corners so 9km was a bit further up the road than it should have been. I think it was ok for the last lap.

Feeling ok on what was a lovely day again. Back I felt for a small bit on the 2nd lap but not on the 3rd. Although it felt a small bit stiff getting off the bike when I got home.

17.58
18.27
18.20

I didn't like the wall today, particularly on the 2nd lap, did think i'd be better on the 2nd lap after being in the wrong gear 1st time around.

Plenty of people out and about, probably cost me a couple of seconds at the end of the 2nd lap as a family were across the road (narrow) so had to slow for them to move out of the way.

Mangerton Road

Problem with the map is that it's about 2km of running to get onto it. But to be different I came home across the rough open for the 1st time. Better to do it downhill than up I reckon. Probably saved around 800m.

Lovely day for a run too and legs felt fine, albeit I didn't push them.

Set a few controls in the forest and ran that route. Between the 1st and 2nd it was rough going so don't think i'd be a fan of that section again. Then rather than going all the way to 2 I followed a path downhill to see where it went, started at the parking area on Mangerton Road. Will use this path again.

Next controls I did go to. Stream on the way to 3 was bone dry.

Then some forest and down to the track before out to the road and back to the bridle path before coming back through the forest again. Wasn't sure if this section would be runnable, it was. After that out to the track and back towards Mangerton Road. Rather than running up the road I cut up through the forest to the road above before more rough open to bring me back across to home.

Enjoyable run. Erik made some Rice Krispie buns this morning so i've them to look forward to later.

Stunning afternoon but despite the sun but of a breeze on the back straight.

Erik’s snacks kept him entertained most of the way but the fecker did a good job of not keeping his hat on.

Note
(rest day)

Slept last night and stomach feeling better today. Hoping to be 100% tomorrow so need a good nights sleep for that as still tired after Sunday night.

Lovely day. Took the lads down to the National Park. I don’t log that walk as momentum is interrupted a lot with Erik on his scooter.
