Walking 50:02 [2] 3.57 km (14:01 / km) +23m 13:35 / km
ahr:91 max:138 (rest day)

Taking it easy today as planned but feeling fine. April was a good month in terms of totals. The lack of races probably helped, just had to worry about training with no major efforts.

Cool today. Big change from yesterday.

Note

Training has been going ok but think my calves need less running.

Monday - Bike
Tuesday - Rest
Wednesday - Run
Thursday - Bike
Friday - Bike
Saturday - Bike
Sunday - IOC 2020 Virtual Relay

With the exercise zone increasing from tomorrow it makes cycling easier.

Wind I found tough in places. Particularly coming up from the main road, couldn't get the pace up after transitioning to the flat.

Happy with the wall today, all about the same, did have a bike in front of me after turning off the Lough Guitane Rd on the 2nd lap for a short while, so as usual another bike gave me motivation.

Laps got slower though. But overall they are now probably quicker than when I started doing these loops. Will have to plan my 1st spin in the 5km zone now, that probably won't involve laps, and not all of it will be up or down.

Exploring nearby bogs

Concerned that calves wouldn’t last, they did without much trouble but I do not trust them at the moment. Just took it easy.

Explored the big to the east of me. Rough with furze in places and some tussocks but not too bad. A few random depressions. Then came to the bank above the River Flesk, high bank, at least 20-30m.

Went north, dropped down, and then along the back of the river. Cut back across then to my road. Bit of a swamp in the middle to negotiate. Hit the road where I wanted to.

Did a couple of laps in Poulnaderka before exiting onto Mangerton are before come across the bog to home.

Thought legs were tired when I woke up but didn’t bother me running.

Today would have been IOC classic on Crohane, will have to wait for that experience next year.
3rd place in the quiz last night. Very random not being able to hear the music questions. And going for the quick fire answer definitely cost us a few points.

Anticlockwise with 2 short laps to finish

17.42 (5.53)
19.18 (5.53)
17.28 (5.58)

Reason for the 2nd lap being off, rear light fell of the bike so had to stop and pick that up, then get going again. Didn't think it would've added that much but it did affect the lap, the time up Mangerton Rd was the same as the 1st lap so that would support the theory.

Not a bad morning. Sun out. Not too cold either.
Body felt much better today pedalling than the last time on the bike.

Might be the last time doing the laps depending on if I cycle tomorrow or Monday. They aren't that bad I suppose, have some fun with the downhills and the climbs keep you honest.

As expected my fitness Trend in the Elevate Strava App is now going up after it was going down. I knew that wasn't the case, the return of proper HR data is making the trend change.

Random

First proper HR data for a while, not that I was interested in it. Got some rain, saw the shower coming when I was up high, but I hear there were hailstones in town so i'll take the few drops I got while sheltered in the woods.

Up to through the open to start off with followed by some forest running. Before that though on the road between Poulnaderka and the open my left calf twinged, and also happened again in the forest. A short sharpish pain but only for a second, then went away again. Stretched and rolled afterwards but nothing niggling. Felt fine running other than that but wasn't pushing.

Looked like a camper van in the parking area on Mangerton Road!

Was going to add in an extra loop back down Mangerton Rd but thought better due to the calf.

Then to get home I detoured through the bit of forest behind my house, where Elvis goes exploring. Light green. Followed a drain and then cut out into the field. Needed to check phone before getting out as wasn't sure exactly where I was. I found a golf ball in this forest too, that was a surprise.

Walking 43:21 [2] 3.56 km (12:10 / km) +33m 11:38 / km
ahr:107 max:144

The 'Roadmap' is out.

At least we can look forward to 5km to exercise within from Tuesday. So that means a 20km loop or so on the bike, with a few options to extend. And Torc is now within range for running, would get most of the way up Mangerton too, and Torc Mountain if I go straight rather than by the path.

Will still be a while before the kids get to see their grandparents in Cork as they would be beyond the 20km zone which comes in later in the Summer, there.

New HR strap. The lap averages are in the mid 150s so there is some effort required over the lap.

Really felt tired on the first lap, had thoughts of calling it after 2 laps if the 2nd was as bad as the 1st, it wasn't. Knew the 1st time up the wall was bad and that the 2nd time was better. Didn't expect a quick time though on the 3rd lap up from the main road.

Met a fella carrying a couple of shopping bags 3 times on Mangerton Rd, poor chap could have done with a lift.

Wet on Mangerton Rd but not at the opposite side of the circuit! 1st lap the worst, struggled to see with the rain into my face after coming down off the wall across the open. Dried up with only a few drops for the rest of the spin.

Random sort of a run, lots of small little loops. Had this planned but wasn't sure how long it would be so that element I decided as I went. Surprised I got to 10k. Calves did let me know about it nearing home. Could feel them for the 1st km, then they warmed up, and they were a bit iffy on the last ramp home. Other than that I felt quite relaxed.

Highlight of the run was definitely Killegy Chapel & Graveyard. If you've ever noticed the cross on your left just before Muckross Gallery.

Was well kept, old, had a few crypts with steps going down to them, an old chapel, and lots of bluebells under the trees. So really glad I got around to exploring this spot.

Had a close pass in Bluepool too, couldn't be helped based on the location. Could have been better if the couple were more aware of my approach...

Looks like the HR strap will be delivered around lunch time. Diabolical service. So won't be surprised if it doesn't arrive, lots of false promises from them.
