Note
(rest day)

Still have a couple of more weeks of the 5km zone, ok running but will be glad to get further afield, or at least have more variation on the bike, the small roads are bumpy.

Monday - Rest
Tuesday - Bike
Wednesday - Bike
Thursday - Run
Friday - Bike
Saturday - Bike
Sunday - Run

Think 2 runs will be enough this week, give them a chance. Also probably will train next Monday too since it's a bank holiday, but i'll see how the week goes. Happy with how the 6 days out of 7 training has been going. Will be interesting to compare next week how this April & May in lockdown has gone compared to other years. I think the lack of racing has helped consistency.

Erik not happy that I was heading out, took it as a sign that he went and got his wellies that he wanted a morning run, not before his breakfast though as he’d had some toast.

So off the 2 of us went. Actually worked out ok as it kept the pace slow enough that my calves didn’t give out at all. So happy with that. HR low enough too so all good. Tried to pick up the pace a small bit for the last few hundred metres after checking the river on the way back for ducks.

Met a few different animals on the run with the donkeys the highlight. Thought we’d left the animals behind in the national park but there were 2 loose cows on the road up home!

Lovely morning for a run. Blue skies and the park looking good.

Tour of the National Park car parks!

Had planned to start at 1030 but ended up with a lot of faff when I started to get ready, forgot i'd new cleats so decided to put them on the shoes and then started tinkering with the pedals, which then needed more tinker before I got going since the tinkering didn't do any good.

The new cycling jersey I bought is an M, don't think the losing weight idea has gone as well as putting the jersey on might lead me to believer, think it might be an american M.

Dinis is literally on the 5km limit so started there, Muckross House car park was supposed to open yesterday but wasn't when I went by going for my run, but was today so took a spin around there. Less cars in there than at the parking area used for Cardiac, with the likelihood being that all those cars are not within 5km of home.

Got a small bit wet around Dinis, but not very wet, a light shower. Not as windy as yesterday but definitely a breeze out there. A few gusts through gaps in the ditch caused a couple of wobbles.

Based on some of the times on Strava segments this morning (from the west) it's easy to tell which way the wind was blowing. And with 1 minute of a difference, in the wrong direction, on the Burma Road, which was into the wind.

Wasn't pushing too hard today but feeling better than the legs led me to believe when I woke up after another night of interrupted sleep. Had a couple of weeks where sleep was better, but that's changed again. Was tempted to do a few more km but decided to get back to get shower completed before Erik's nap.

Muckross/Torc

With the weather being uncharacteristically windy the bike wasn't an option today so risked running. Even had a power cut over night, at around 3.30, know the time as the baby monitor reacted to the power supply being interrupted. Bad nights sleep overall as was late to bed due to a quiz/catch-up with college friends plus an upset baby when I did get to bed. Tired getting up this morning.

Plenty of smaller branches on the ground along with lots of leaves, but nothing too serious.

Quiet enough in the national park probably due to the weather.

Kept the pace under control, slow, and that worked for the legs. Could maybe sort of feel right calf towards the end but hard to tell, not badly anyway.

Met a few donkeys, a bull and a couple of ducks, so lots of wildlife in the fields/ponds.

This was the run I failed to finish on Sunday, definitely a better idea to start at Torc, hill in the middle rather than at the start.

Sort of a loop with a small bit of overlap down Ross Road for a change of scenery

Nice enough day, some wind but not as much as yesterday, think I avoided too much into it.

Enjoying the hills.

New cleats hopefully arriving today so will have a more secure pedal position from tomorrow, and a new rear light so will be a bit safer.

Over the flesk, around town and back again

Started with bare arms but the wind was strong so put on the arm warmers fairly soon after I started. Wind was annoying, from the S/SE, and was definitely not looking forward to the return journey from town based on that direction.

Was moving well enough at times, particularly from Ballaghacommane into Killarney but had the benefit of the wind ;-)

The hill out of Killarney was hard into the wind, felt like I was going nowhere in a hurry, at least no gardaí around today. Got better on the far side of the roundabout but this was probably directly into the wind. After the level crossing was easier than I thought it was going to be.

Got out later than normal today, Mary had to meet her boss in Killarney and was gone a lot longer than expected. Still managed to get some work done while keeping an eye on the 2 boys, at least 1 of them was asleep for some of the time.

I unconvinced regarding the Strava new payment/features model, Elevate is working for the moment so get some comparisons from that. Will hold off on the phone app update for the time being too to see how that goes.

A long and short lap from home with some bits in between
Hilly

3.32
3.46
3.48
up Loretto Rd and definitely can improve that PR.

21.18 for the lap including Loretto Rd & Mangerton Rd
17.43 for Mangerton Rd anti-clockwise
The new lap I tried today is 11km and the old one is 9km. So moving a bit faster on the longer lap but did have a tractor on the main road that I chased down, had to pass the car dithering behind it, and then overtook the tractor. So that did help keep the pace up towards the end of that lap.

So lots of hills and no time for Mangerton Rd, strava seems to be missing it.

Warm today so short sleeves but also a breeze. Met a few bikes out and abou too, so busy.

Had this sort of spin in my mind to do, a change from over what i'm told is referred to as the Burma Road.
