Out before breakfast and that was fine. Main plan was to get something done today. The various aches weren't too bad on the bike. Legs not that tired. But not really under pressure, more about recovery today with the hope to get a long spin done tomorrow.

Drizzled the whole time, light enough, thought i'd be more annoyed by it than I actually was.

Roads quiet enough since it was early.

Erik wasn't getting a choice this morning regarding what to wear, Liverpool jersey all around.

Out in the evening as family trip to the beach this morning. Both lads throroughly enjoyed themselves. Whether it be making/breaking sandcastles, the playground and the water. Thought I’d the measure or Erik at picnic time as I closed the playground gate on him, little bollocks went under the gate on me!

Felt tired before I got going and back has been at me the last few days. Some times worse than others. It was actually fine running so that was good. Actually felt much better more awake running than I did before.

Nice evening for a run too, no sign of any thunderstorms. So pleasant conditions.

Felt comfortable at this pace and legs didn’t give out too much. Would have been happier I think to run slower but it didn’t happen that way. Left ankle was ok too, didn’t tape it and went on trails. No issues. Was also ok hopping around rocks to get down to the water at Rossbeigh earlier.

I’m surprised that I didn’t shed a tear. Think I might have if they were actually playing tonight.

KCC Independent Performance Test

Usually on a Tuesday but with yesterday's weather today was a better option. Weather was overcast when I woke up but turned into a lovely morning, sun shone. First time in a couple of weeks that i've bared my arms on the bike.

Some wind alright, tailwind to Glenflesk, not so bad to Barraduff, but definitely a headwind back from Ballaghacommane. Had been thinking wouldn't it be nice to get a tractor to tuck in behind to avoid the wind but then it is a test so that wouldn't be in the spirit of things. Actually a tractor + slurry tank came by before the turn onto the Ballaghacommane straight, could have tucked in behind but maintained my effort. He wasn't that far in front of me then for the straight and for the rest of the test. So it did help motivate me for the last bit.

Legs tired when putting efforts in out of the saddle on the odd few ramps. But not so bad in the saddle.

36.08 for the KCC 22.7 segment. So a big improvement on the 1st effort. And 2 minutes quicker than last week. Avg. HR was 162 so actually less than 1st effort.

June 9th - 37.39
June 16th - 38.22
June 24th - 36.08

Dinis (clockwise)

Might as well do 3 days in a row round Muckross Lake. Definitely the wettest of the days today, better visibility than last night but heavier rain. Was fine to be running in though. Probably got the wettest from the vegetation overgrowing the path between Torc and Dinis, some parts have really narrowed.

Left ankle not too happy starting off but ok once warmed up. Around Dinis could feel left achilles and right calf, think the achilles was related to the ankle. Got better though. Overall legs not too bad but they have got a few days recovery. Calves will need some work this evening. Could feel my back a bit too.

The lake has risen in recent days, no where near winter levels but higher than it was a few weeks ago.

Note

Not really sure what the weather is like for the week but i'll make a plan on it being lovely, no harm in being optimistic.

Legs starting to feel better in terms of the aches in my calves after that run up Torc. So will give running (easy) a go later. Would like to get a long spin in on Saturday too on the bike. Will do Ladies View too on the bike on Wednesday i'd say.

Dinis

Changed plans only a few hours after making them. Forecast for tomorrow is wet so decided to run tomorrow instead. And since this evening was shitty I chose the mountain bike. Miserable start down the hill into the shitty rain and wind. Thankfully the weather did improve a small bit. Wind remained but rain lessened.

Tried to put some effort into the Dinis section and managed a 30 second improvement on yesterday despite the worse weather. Quiet this evening too, met 1 person close to the Dinis car park, met more in the park but not on the Dinis road.

Dinis * 2

Bit of difficulty deciding which bike to get on this morning, road or MTB, wasn't sure how the legs were. Decided MTB would be good for a change of scenery.

Some wind this morning but not as much as yesterday, actually did well weatherwise as it rained after I got home.

Quiet too around Dinis, didn't meet too many people, more on the 2nd lap than the first. It was confusing to see a Garda van parked at Dinis Cottage on the 2nd lap, must have been following me on my 1st lap. Think they are just taking advantage of having the code for the national park since there wasn't any reason to be there.

A couple of lads camping too in the Dinis car park. Unlikely they were local to the county!

Legs felt better on the 2nd lap, think I was slightly faster too, so the legs being warmed up helped, some tiredness in the first lap.

Beaufort-Killorglin-Board of Works

Was going to do Board of Works first but changed my mind due to the wind direction, felt it might be easier to face the wind downhill rather than the exposed long straights on the Beaufort-Killorglin road.

That wind at my back starting out lulled me into a false sense of security, realised when I no longer had the wind that my legs are actually tired. They were very tired by the time i got home. Worst part was between Fossa and Killarney, found some bit of energy for the last few km home.

Met a good few bikes coming against me including i'd say a group of 8, looked like juniors from the club. Good to see Mike out too, he seemed to be cocooning on his turbo for a lot longer than necessary.

Calves still feeling tight so will see about running tomorrow, might be easier to go on the bike as i've to go to work on Monday, then run Monday evening after putting Oscar to bed. Knee was grand cycling and so was ankle as luckily enough managed to avoid having to clip out during the spin.
