Ross Castle

Didn't push, was mindful of the calf, and the whole point was to see if it would survive. It did. So i'll enter the NI champs.

Got 1 & 2 alright but made a mess of 3. Went too far and made the features fit beyond to think I was in the right place. So a bit of time lost looking in the wrong place. Then realised my error and went back.

After that I didn't make any serious mistakes, maybe 24 being the other one, but that was more climbing down a cliff that I didn't need to. Some small misses/hesitations in the circle at times. Didn't execute the last control to the finish as I intended but that could have been for the best. It was going to be a direct route across the marsh by the car park. Way I ended up going was alright in the end. But the route had me thinking for a while.

Some route choice which was good. And some controls needed some thought, 17 in particular, really didn't know how to attack that control. Got it fine though. Used compass for it and for the next short leg to get direction right. Do need to do more of that.

Kissanes - Beaufort

Out early as we were going to Kennedy’s Pet Farm this morning. Not a bad morning either, cool, but sun out. Wind not much of an issue for most of the spin.

Bad nights sleep but definitely feeling better overall.

Stopped in Beaufort to take off cycling cap, felt tight, more comfortable without.

I’ve a short fuse with cars these days!

Killarney-Kilcummin

Was going to go south but looked damp so went north, correct decision as was damp when I got near home on the way back. Would have been wet up at Ladies View. Also a bit of wind blowing today from the S/SW, didn't find it too bad, but think it was a headwind when i'd the fall of ground with me so that compensated.

Still got a bit of climbing done.

Road up to Kilcummin has had a resurface at some point, so definitely ok to cycle up that road now, used to be a lot worse. This route fit the hour, with plenty of options for an extension, main extension would be to go through Kilcummin, add the 2 sides to the triangle, that would add a few km plus climb.

Can't be moving too badly as a PR on Mill Road, that may have benefitted from the wind. The hill up to Coolcorcoran wasn't that bad either, expected it to be worse, but didn't put too much into it despite the HR saying otherwise.

Glenflesk-Barraduff-Killarney (Park Rd)

Plan was to rest today but weekend has changed slightly in terms of what I hope to do, cycle on Saturday and orienteering on Sunday. Will see about more bike tomorrow too.

Still probably not 100%, throat felt a bit iffy last night. But lungs are grand. HR probably a bit higher than it should be but cycling not too much of an effort. Legs did feel a small bit tired nearing home.

Colder today on the bike but alright once warmed up. Not much wind either so that was good.

Muckross

Think the calf just about managed the time, any extra and I think there could have been issues. Kept the pace slow, or mostly slow, probably some accidental pickups on the roads, but with the smaller rocky trails that slows things down.

Beautiful morning for a run.

Wondering what course to run on Sunday...

Still don't really know how I'm feeling, think a bit better after this, but maybe not 100% when cycling. But getting fed up of inactivity.

Some drizzle for a few minutes but mostly fine, not too much wind, it felt the strongest against me on the way home out the Muckross Road. Warm so short sleeves.

Felt strange training this morning. Think with schools back everything feels more normal so to be out on the bike in the morning was a bit strange. Must think about investing in some winter cycling gear and maybe that MTB, if i'm going to be home for a while. No idea when I might be back in the office full time.
