Collecting Mary’s car (god knows what time she got home!). She was at a friends house last night so I ran to collect it this morning via another house (Muckross). A good bit of road but some trails too.

Mostly dry but started raining by the shop. Will take that given how I missed yesterday’s rain.

Overall a downhill run, that doesn’t happen too often.

Legs ok but calves could be felt, both of them, near the end. Not feeling them afterwards so that’s something. Glute ok most of the time but any jolts hurt.

Only about 14 hours since I got off the road bike so probably not a whole pile of recovery.

Legs tired at times as a result.

Got lucky weather wise, some rain coming in as I got home, and got wetter after that.

Bit of climbing to start off with and then into the forest. Had that much planned but not much more than that, reckoned I could get away with an hour so not far off that in the end.

Had the loose chippings as far as the turn onto Mangerton Road but they were fine.

Saw a road bike ahead of me then so that got me up the Wall.

Saw no one then until Muckross House, no one on the Torc Road.

Bit of overlap in the end with some sections with the loops I ended up doing.

Surprised to meet a bike coming against me on the path back from the Abbey.

Have been scared of doing this spin until today for fear of the climb being slow but will take 11.21 for the 1st attempt of the year.

Gardaí, ambulance, paramedics in the Torc car park as I passed and heard a helicopter through the trees but couldn’t see it. Also met an ambulance coming against me with blue lights on the return.

Bit cold around the head again starting off but slightly warmer than Wednesday.

Very dodgy start from the house down the hill as far as the quarry, loose chippings, really wasn’t comfortable. The spin probably benefitted from the tar between the main road and Muckross House though considering how rough it was.

For the climb I just plugged away in the same gear and around the same HR, 170.

Had some cars to slow me down for the descent so lost some seconds there. A bike came against me near the top so that was motivation on the way home, definitely helped.

Not too long as didn’t want to risk the left calf, could feel a twinge on a couple of occasions but under control.

Mix of trails and some forest.

A few trees down in places to clamber over and slow the run down.

Climbs weren’t easy.

Downhill finish back to the car was welcome as a result.

Had to spend some time getting ticks off my right leg when I got home, a lot of them!

ahr:149 max:168 shoes: Shimano RC5

Not that warm, head very cold starting off into the wind due to a haircut yesterday. Could have done with a cap.

Strong wind from the west this evening so tough on the way out but easy coming home.

Traffic bad in town, both ways. Took splits for the spins through. 28.6/5 avg through town and then 30.8 on spin west from Ballydowney.

Legs benefitted from the rest. Lower back sore around the Dunloe but eased after a bit. My burnt stomach is red but didn’t bother me cycling.

Passed Colm O’H coming against me on his bike after Beaufort Bridge, I’m guessing he was shopping in town.

Note
(rest day)

Tired today, work not helping, too much screen time.

National Tea Day
Met Mary & Oscar at tea time, Oscar wanted to go to Costa so we did, and they'd run out of tea!!!

Recovery

Legs not feeling too bad but certainly not in the mood for an effort. Had to get out in the nice weather too. Cloudy at work but more sun in Killarney.

A few bikes going the wrong way around Dinis but not that busy around there despite the weather.

Probably not many on Attackpoint listen to the 2 Johnnies on an afternoon, after the dieing notices they played Chumbawumba’s I GET KNOCKED DOWN. A classic tune, but not the most apt for someone on a bike.

Bit of extra road at the end to finish.
