Note

Ran the Daze 2 course at Forrest Meadows. Forrest Meadows (in its original incantation) was not a large map, but it was, and remains, a gem. Varied granite terrain with nice detail including a series of knolls at different "shelves" or levels, and also varied vegetation including several pockets of douglas fir.

Scattered fallen beetle kill trees amp up the running/navigation challenge, but they're never in amounts that are difficult to either get through or run around. Rather, if you don't look ahead in the terrain and adjust your line, then you will needlessly spend an extra 10-30 seconds where there are 2 or 3 trees fallen down together and you run directly towards them for too long.

And, while it's never hard orienteering--as long as you are doing all the things you're supposed to be doing--several of the controls proved to be trickier than I had imagined.

All in all, a fun course. And the day itself was a stunningly beautiful summer day in the Laramie Range; we seem to have had unusual amounts of cloudy days for much of the summer, and many of the days that were otherwise quite nice have featured large quantities of haze.
