Training Log Archive: Swampfox

Ran trails. I had in mind to go out for a certain amount of time, but at an overlook that included a view of the interstate, I could see a long line of vehicles--mostly trucks--parked along the interstate. And an acquaintance I had bumped into on the trails and had chatted with earlier had said something about a lot of vehicles being parked, and my first thought was that this is what he had been referring to.

But as soon as I had that thought, I realized it was wrong: he hadn't been referring to the interstate, and already I could see the vehicles on the interstate weren't actually parked--rather, they were just moving very, very slowly. They were in the west bound lane, and that had to mean there had been a crash somewhere in the canyon, in between the time I had driven up the canyon and the present. That in turn made me opt to run longer than the original plan, to give the wreck a chance to be cleared. And by the time I returned to the overlook again about an hour or so later, traffic was moving normally again.

It turned out the wreck had been just past the on-ramp at the Visitors Center, and it looked like something had burned up. There were still a lot of flashing lights there of various colors.
