Note

Coldish last night (compared to what it's mostly been like this season so far) but the sun quickly changed that and by afternoon it was quite comfortable out. By now if you spend time regularly outdoors locally, anything above 32F + sunshine feels pretty mild--before any effect from wind.

Streets are still mostly in snow, but everywhere the sun could strike for long, the snow was turning to slush in the sun.

Ran snow trails and two days after the snow it's plainer that it's going to require a good bit more snow before skiing gets shaped up. So, looks like more O' is in the cards.

Note

Finally enough snow for....Yowsa! First time for the season.

Note

Ran trails late in the day under graying skies, as a prelude to snow.

Note

O' at Pelican Bay, 12.2 kms, 21 controls, sunny, decent wind out of the west, mild and pleasant, with (disappearing) patchy snow. Struggled to read the map (1:12,500 scale today) in a couple of places, and I think my eyes were fatigued from being up last night.

One of the places that I couldn't see what I thought must be there was on a section of the newly mapped area, and I thought I had drawn in the survey covering the control area, and as I approached the ring, the things I could see just didn't match the map at all. I was guessing my eyes weren't doing well reading contours under areas of gray. When I got back home and checked out the map file, I realized it was, right, a surveyed area, but a piece I hadn't drawn in yet. Mystery solved.

Odd to be approaching the mid-point of December and to have so little snow on the ground. In the open meadow areas, nearly every foot strike was sending up a little puff of dust that quickly headed east on the wind.

Note

Another very pleasant, mild sunny day, though maybe not quite as pleasant as yesterday. Though hard to be sure, as I was out biking in the early afternoon rather than running like yesterday, and upper 40s on a bike feels different a good bit different than upper 40s while running, especially when just light breezes are around.

Ran trails after biking. I'll enjoy the super fine running conditions while they last, because surely winter will be coming back around sooner or later!

Note

O' pass at Pelican Bay, 24 controls, 9 kms, sunny, mild, patchy snow on ground, some breeze, and overall very pleasant, with no pelicans, No moose or deer or elk either--pretty much just me. Hard to believe it's December, and the one thing giving it away was the low angle of the sun, low even at midday.
