Note

It's not every day in May that you get to play...in snow. But if you're lucky and live at 7280', then you just never know.

Longish snow slog in 3-4" of new snow up at Happy Jack, with fine flour snow falling the while time. It must be said that here "slog" does not denote anything negative. The running was quite nice, and it was pleasant to be out in the snow cloud/fog with not too much breeze, and fresh, un-tracked snow nearly every step of the way. I just like saying "snow slog". Try saying it real fast 1000 times, and possibly you will see what I mean, though also possibly your vocal mechanism could fail or worse, so not recommended for beginners.

Note

Snow today after a sensational recess from winter, and it puts the word "ramblin'" in mind for some reason.

I'd guess there's about a 1 in 3 chance this will do it for snow this season. But who knows, that's a WAG and nothing more. And when the wind blows around here, it blows hard, and anything can happen--more snow, or even a steam engine or two could pull into town. You just never know.

Note

O' pass at Granite Planite; ran the Green course from last year for time. There was some strong breeze that sometimes pushed and sometimes pulled, but mostly it just felt like at home on the Range.

It always helps to go into these workouts with a Power Song in mind, and today's Power Song was the classic "Firehouse", by those fun loving kids in face paint--Kiss.

While I was warming up, I ran by an old brown beer bottle. I wanted to pick it up and recycle it but 1) there is no place to recycle glass in Laramie, and I'll be damned if I am going to drive all the way to Dallas just to recycle one beer bottle (maybe if I had two or three, though), and 2) even though it's early in the season, brown beer bottles make really good homes for stinging hornets. Why take any chances?

O' pass at Granite Planite.

For the first time when I was there, the natives were also out in the forest.
