Note

Day 5 of some better than strong winds, and it's not done yet. It's like the Wind Gods were singing "Ring, Ring" and someone did decide to give them a call. Probably some wind farm operator.

But the sun was out if you were out at the right time of the day, and running in the shelter of the forest wasn't bad at all. Along the way, I caught up a couple of hikers from behind and said hello. They related that a little ways back down the trail they had witnessed a large pine tree crashing down in the wind. I still haven't seen that, though I have once heard a tree nearby that was blowing down in the wind.

Note

Windy out, but not as strong as was forecast--at least it didn't feel like it. Temps were somewhere in the upper 40s or higher, and so I did some biking first, and then ran a mix of trails and off-trail later. Other than seeing 4 hikers right at my turn around point, I didn't see anyone else out in the part of the forest I was in.

Day 3 of some decent wind, and got out for some biking anyway. as temps were up into the 40s. And then ran in what passes for mid-afternoon (afternoons after the time change are so skimpy there really isn't any mid-afternoon, but rather about 2 hours of afternoon, and then everything after that is either late afternoon or incipient darkness) and through the brief few minutes of duskness and finished up with about 10 minutes of true night. Not so bad as there was some filtered moonlights, so it was easy enough to see even though snow on the ground is quite scattered.

Looking forward to some even bigger wind tomorrow!

Note

It's not often you see Wyoming ranked #1 in anything other than stuff like wind, gun ownership, and suicides (of course those last two are totally unrelated), but for the moment Wyoming is ranked #1 in the RPI Basketball Rankings. Along with another 139 schools, but so what. #1!

OUSA could learn from this. Just add a few more age categories, and everyone in orienteering could be #1, too!

Note

The record low for this date is -22F, which is chilly enough. It's not going to get there today, but we will be able to take heart from it going to be windy, and bikers headed downwind will need to monitor their speed to avoid getting ticketed. In fact, it looks like there are going to be some pretty fine winds for the next week, and that will make up for the lack of cold temps.

Note

Despite some big winds available to take energy from, I felt fairly blah while out running. Maybe because of the booster shot? Or maybe just a reverse placebo effect. But at least I got out.

Congratulations Bowling Green!

Spent the morning allocating small amounts of capital, but enough that it should pay the bills for another few weeks if everything works out. And with ever rising sea levels, even a few weeks matter, even at 7220' in Wyoming.

Then went out for Tisdags Traning at midday and ran intervals. I felt as good as I've felt for a while and no hunters shot me either, so that went really well. and especially the part at the end where I ate some crackers.

That set me up for the highlight of the day, which was getting a COVID booster vaccine at the Walmart pharmacy. While I was there, my thoughts wandered a bit, and I wondered what it would be like if everyone just came to the Walmart pharmacy to buy their drugs, instead of going to the Cowboy Saloon or local truck stops, etc. It seems like it would be safer. Plus you could buy bananas, too, all in the same day!

Finally, to celebrate getting the booster, I went out and picked up some pizza for dinner. Rather than use my credit card, I searched my pockets for change and found three bitcoins. I didn't know if it would be enough, but when I gave them to the folks at the counter, they seemed pretty happy, so it worked out okay.

All in all, a pretty solid day.
