Note

9.7 kms at Remarkable Flats, some very light snow and occasional sprinkles; heavier snow further off to the west, which I didn't mind missing. Towards the end, it was just me and one moose, which crunched away from me through some aspens once it caught sight of me.

Note

Orienteering late in the day at Granite Planite, by which time most of the snow had melted off at that location and elevation--plenty of snow left higher up at Happy Jack, though. The sun was out and there was at most a light breeze, so pretty nice to be out.

I had been told that gates into the forest road net were to be opened up on Friday, but they weren't, and still weren't open today, probably because of the snow.

Note

Woke up this morning to discover about 4" of snow had fallen overnight--shocker. Even though it may have been wimpy, I cancelled my plans for today's 227 mile bike ride, and had some waffles instead. Some folks would say that was a guilty pleasure and point to the South, where people live in sin and have hundreds if not thousands of Waffle Houses to do their sinning in. As for me, I don't see it that way at all, and if waffles aren't the staff of live on a cold day in May, then what are they?

Up top, there was more snow and had been less melting from underneath, and I ran for about 2 hours, breaking trail for about 3/4s of that time. One biker had been out and a couple of other people either walking or running. A couple of new trees were down.

Note

High winds were on tap today, and the prediction did not disappoint. It was otherwise sunny and mild, and even out in the open on a road bike things were manageable–you just had to pedal harder going in certain directions. While I was out on my bike I thought about what it must have been like at the state high school soccer championship underway over in Cheyenne. At least it was sunny there, too. Pictures from the track and field championships up in Casper revealed quite a different scene: no sun, and lots of snow.

Running in the early evening, I noticed the first chillier air filtering in shortly before 7 pm, and my timing was spot on, finishing up running exactly as the first sleet started hitting the parking lot.

Note

Linked up with Scott for a ride up Pilot Hill. There was one snow drift up top on the north-south double track, but otherwise everything was dry. Beautiful day out, a nice prelude for some expected snow to come over the weekend.

Note

Tisdags traning--10 x 5 min intervals, 1/2 uphill (slightly) and into the wind (lots), and 1/2 going the other way and hoping to beat out an incoming storm. Only got hit a with a small amount of rain, so I won that round.
