Note

Busy day, and I was able to squeeze in an interval workout and finish in just enough time to make a late afternoon meeting. But, having seen other comments elsewhere here, I did have to take a world record breaking fastest ever shower in order to make it all work.

The technique involved was basically to turn on the water, then, in one continuous motion, jumping in and immediately executing a plyometric style jump back out, and then engaging in a dog style shake while at the same time applying a towel to the few remaining drops of water. I will try not to boast about this too much more, but at the same time, it does feel kind of good to be the new record holder. ; )

Out the door after work and up the hill, only to find...it was cold, about 20 degrees colder than it should be for this time of the year. Surprising!

And there was bitter wind out of the west--not at all like the mild stuff they have down Antarctica way. Shocking!

And there was even snow on the ground. No possible way, you are making it all up!

But the snow cover was meager, just enough to lure out a few snow bikers, but not near enough to discourage the mountain bikers. And not remotely close enough to awaken the snow snake giants from their summer slumbers, so all in all it felt safe enough to be out. It just took a while to get semi-warmed up, which was all I was able to manage with the clothes I had on for the run.

Legs felt basically okay and just a little residual soreness left from Sunday.

Note

My legs were already starting to tingle on the way to #2, and things went downhill from there quickly, with full blown cramping for most of the course. So it goes!

I thought I had spent enough time traveling out with not any really long days in the car, but it still looks like for a trip like this I need 3 days minimum at the end of the trip (at the destination) to give my legs whatever it is they need to "settle" back in.

There are so many odd things about this, but maybe the oddest is that over all these years I've never once had this problem on the return trip home--I've always been able to step right out of the car at home and do any kind of running I wanted without the least sign of a problem.

It was still neat to go out into what was a brand new terrain type for me, and to get to take a tour around in it with a map.

Red Rock inspection day.

Yesterday when I started running down a steep slope, unfortunately my upper legs started cramping. I didn't have anything worse than some mild tingles today when going down slopes, but then I was taking it easy on purpose. I'll have to be careful on any descents tomorrow and hope for the best.
