Orienteering (Warm up) 15:00 [2]
NA CH - run to start. Warm - 80, sunny, woods look gr.
Orienteering (NA CH) 1:29:30 [4]5.68 km (15:45 / km) +170m 13:42 / km
ahr:157 max:176 spiked:12/18c
Day 1 - 80, sunny, warm. Woods much gr than model, In fact first downhill white was Dark gr brambles, lt gr was gr, rest of wh was ok. Took conservative approach avoiding gr, running tip of reentrant to tip etc - round about and slower, but hit first 8 bags. 9 was bingo buried betw small stump and small rock - missed by 20' or so twice due being on wrong side of thick gr (?). Got coming from opposite side. 14 - overshot by going to fast/too far/not reading map-features. Go control took roundabout scenic route via swimming pool - got really misplaced & didn't pay enough attention to compass at critical pts - like at start of climb out of stream.

Overall-disappointing O but felt good running.

Orienteering (Model event) 33:00 [2]2.4 km (13:45 / km)
NEOOC model - Trying to figure out woods - Wh was greener than lt gr, vert slash was a non-factor. Easy poke around getting used to O after drive.

Trail run (overdistance) 1:10:00 [1]5.9 mi (11:51 / mi)
Purple loop - 50, misty. Easy run to shake legs out before drive tomorrow to OH. Ran with map & compass, checking terrain, map of trail. Had drawn trails in by hand years ago and updated with gps run. Woods roads came off of usgs as are contours etc. Roads and fields were adjusted from aerials but resolution may not be adequate. Need to field check. On this run found many discrepancies of the trail and a few of contours. Made adjustments but need to actually walk thru field checking.

Interesting how different things look after all these years of running this route (several times a week) when carefully looked at with a map.

Trail run 33:00 [1]
Warm up/cool down to Bissel Wds - 70, sunny. Slow getting going. Better coming back. Awkward with glasses.
Orienteering 33:30 [1]
Bissel Wds - Ridge / Valley area with streamers from last year. Trying different glasses arrangement with no lens in L for close up map reading; lens in R for distance. R eye so wonky can't really see on its own in woods. Could kind of see distance but in betw stuff, like where you place feet or avoid tree branches, was uneven. Also woods wet from rain last night and shoes very slippery. Frustrating, slow run and most of streamers gone. Woods have much blowdowns and being wet with bad shoes was big problem.

Monday May 24

Road run (Warm up) 12:47 [2]1.5 mi (8:31 / mi)
Around block & bike tr to loosen up. Cool, muggy.
Saw a Baltimore Oriole as he chirped away.
Strength (nycb) 30:00 [1]
Warm up and abs. Couldn't get up for the rest.

Sunday May 23

Orienteering 1:14:44 [4]6.1 km (12:15 / km) +170m 10:45 / km
Pond Mt Red - 80, humid. Pretty clean run focussing on looking around at terrain and maintaining some forward speed. Bit of trouble reading map as move along and must slow pretty much. But kept good map contact - came up short on some and off to L and beyond on one but able to locate position quickly. Nice course.
Orienteering (Control pickup) 34:00 [2]
Rerun of several legs. Bug spray starting to wear off so had company and still found numerous spider webs to go thru.

Red - Splits
