Orienteering (Warm up) 20:00 [1]
Telemark Day 1 - 40, snow flurries blowing horizontally across ski slope. Run up to start and around area prior to call up.
Orienteering 1:00:26 [4]5.6 km (10:48 / km) +195m 9:11 / km
US Champs Day 1 Green Y, Telemark - 40, windy but nice in woods, wet. Good run overall. Bobble going to second trail going to 5 but quick recovery. Rest went well.
Nice course with some good tricky legs.
1st M60/1st Gr Y
Orienteering (Sprint) 17:37 [3]1.9 km (9:16 / km) +60m 8:00 / km
Telemark - Had late start for run so finished just before Sprint started. After few Gatorades, gave sprint a try while feet were still wet and hadn't gone completely cold. Fun run, slowish but a good exercise to try to keep in contact on run in tight area.

Green Y - Splits

Orienteering (Model event) 41:00 [1]
Telemark - 45, grey, mist, wet. Checked out this funky kettle stuff. Very interesting, liked the map and terrain, just had to be careful.

Wednesday Oct 13

Orienteering (Practice) 1:05:35 [1]
Bissell Woods - 55, sunny. Easy run to loosen up/practice flow on map. Warmup across Beaver Wood to Bissell. Ran 1k loop in reverse of last time while Lyn ran other way. Took it easy, focussing on compass, map. Returned same way.

Monday Oct 11

Orienteering 2:13:46 [4]8.36 km (16:00 / km) +245m 13:57 / km
EMPO Grafton Lakes Red- 50, grey, blustery. Ok running but cold standing around. Was going to have an easy practice run, working on flow. Started well but got into a vague section of map (old photocopy of a 1992 map) where dark green has grown out but color hides all map info. Plus 15000 map and with few features was hard to really locate. So slowed a lot and struggled on later controls. And tired. Rest week coming up.

Time includes 7' wandering around looking for bag that had been collected, was a 90m leg with very distinct features so finally gave up and left only to run into Grant at the next control with bag in hand.

Red - Splits

Sunday Oct 10

Orienteering 2:15:00 [2]
Coups Sawmill (section w of Gay City) - 60, sunny tho got cooler. Run around with Dunleavy base map of area w Gari, Clint. Map excellent, with addition of a few rocks, cliffs would be good to go tho would need trails for beginners probably;} Nice run tho felt very tired and had trouble keeping up. May be overtrang, seems like a long year. Will be glad when CH are over. Then just focus on Manchester!
