| Trail run warm up/down 10:00 [1] | ||
| weight:152lbs shoes: VJ Pro 1 | ||
| Osbornedale, before sprint. | ||
| Orienteering race (Sprint) 28:41 [4] *** 2.5 km (11:28 / km) +50m 10:26 / km | ||
| spiked:9/14c shoes: VJ Pro 1 | ||
| Osbornedale Sprint - 65, sunny. Nice course but bumbled several legs, primarily 3, overshot as not used to 5000 scale yet, 5 - strange mapping, 6 - too R, 8-changed route mid way, 12 - read number of bag but compared to next control # and kept going a bit before recovering, duh! Fun. | ||
| Orienteering race 1:23:25 [4] *** 6.27 km (13:18 / km) +185m 11:36 / km | ||
| spiked:11/14c shoes: VJ Pro 1 | ||
| Osbornedale Red - Running better than sprint, now being warmed up, but went off too fast and over run O technique. First few were fine, then was too low on 7 and had parallel error, Thought was too far and headed back until relocated off pond. #8 was worse - changed plan half way around from reasonable attack from below to go up before cliffs, through green along top of cliffs expecting to see ??? who knows. Badly overshot and wandered before finally relocating. Rest was fine. Nice course and good use of a small technical park. | ||

Thursday May 12 | ||
| Strength (nycb 2) 55:00 [1] | ||
| weight:152lbs | ||
| stretching, abs, balance - usual stuff. But spent much of morning watching workmen cut down an enormous oak across the street. Such a pretty tree. | ||
| Note | ||
| Now they're working on the second huge oak, backyard this time. A shame in a way.
They actually did a third oak. The shame is that they left all sorts of junk trees - small scraggly white pine, hemlocks - which will quickly grow and fill in the shade. They did leave one big oak in the front, wasn't the biggest.
| Trail run tempo 1:07:23 [4] 8.0 mi (8:25 / mi) +175m 4:54 / km | ||
| weight:152lbs shoes: NB 833 | ||
| WH Reservoir, HTC Thurs Nite group run - 55, clear, dry, slight N wind. Our first try at this weekly event. About 20-25 showed up. We started relatively slowly for about 2 mi. using that as warmup while a surge group immediatley went off the front and disappeared. Then hit hilly part, all climb is in first half and most in 3rd mile up to Kilkenny Rocks. Split to about halfway (not sure where it was exactly) was 35'. Then it's all down hill and we let loose for a real nice flow down, only stopping occasionally waiting at intersections for a group behind to give us directions. Surface mostly gravel, with some paved, some rough. Real nice run in a different area, with different people to kind of prod us to get the legs moving.
Survived altho R ITB and knee joint a bit tender. Taking today as rcy preparing for w.e.

| (rest day) | ||
| Easy day after yesterday. The Great Mt run was all the more poignant as we went thru a section that Gari and I had gone through last August. He was so enthralled with the area; bounding on, up and down the hills. He just couldn't wait to start mapping - the whole thing. | ||
Tuesday May 10 | ||
| Orienteering long (Rogaine vetting) 5:00:00 [1] ** 6.9 mi (43:28 / mi) +300m 23:48 / km | ||
| weight:153lbs shoes: Soloman XA Blue/Yellow | ||
| Great Mt, Norfolk - 65-70, sunny, nice open woods. Checking control sites for the Aug rogaine from the Yale School Camp. Mostly hiking, but using a funky detuned topo map for the rogaine with backup topo for finding actual sites. Made a great loop, can't wait for this area to be mapped for O. The woods are soooo open and runnable in this part, with fun features - like a 5 x 7 m pair of boulders, or a big one split. Not sure but it's neat. Great day in the woods! | ||
| Note | ||
| And in the midst of the excursion, lyn came eye-to-eye with some kind of furry creature hidden amongst the rocks while she was about to assume a very compromising position. I've never seen her run so fast or be so scared. Not sure what the creature was as we didn't want to disturb it more, or have the mother come after us. But it's right by a control sight;-} so come along and you might see it this summer. | ||
Sunday May 8 | ||
| Trail run warm up/down 15:00 [1] | ||
| weight:152lbs shoes: VJ Pro 1 | ||
| Lincoln Woods - cool, windy so tried to warm up a lot before going out. And brief jog around after. | ||
| Orienteering race 1:10:11 [4] ***** 5.7 km (12:19 / km) | ||
| spiked:12/19c weight:152lbs shoes: VJ Pro 1 | ||
| Lincoln Woods, RI Red course - 50, grey, very windy adn cold at start but fine in woods.
Very sloppy effort. Big trouble reading map and making sense of it, but probably just hurrying to much and misunderestimating the difficulty of the terrain. Seemed to be confused by the mapping of the veg, clearings, rock features mapped vs unmapped. They tended to only map big rock features and not map bare rock. Also many new bike trails thru woods. But overall, interesting course and effort. Lots of moderately short legs. Good training.
