| The JJ Magnificent Mega course - An intense effort of concentration for a long time. Started off poorly by bungling 2, thinking it was a knoll. Standing on top with no flag around, checked codes as a depression. Not a good start. Then 4, got too far down reentrant and spent a while watching folks climb higher up. Then settled down and focussed on tight compass and stting bearing to next control as approach current bag, trying not to slow down. Got into a nice rhythm as a bunch of speedsters went by early then settling in with Susie and Clint until Mikkel crashed at 29 (hope the head is ok). Stayed with Clint, picking up Rick at 46 who seemed to be just hanging out. Stayed together pushing the pace to the extension, where Rick dropped off. Then Clem and Wyatt went by at the cliffs, Ted clambered down the split ahead of me (I crawled along a ledge from the other end). Then Clint took off and I slowed down and alone rest of way. Occasional groups came by - Ross, Sam and Suzanne at 84, Brendan about 90-100, Pav at 115, Vlad at 123, Peggy, Dave, Steve, Kristin at 130, Boris, Greg, Kenny at 157, Eric B at 165, and finally caught someone - Eric Smith at 200.
A great exercise though in stretches lost contact a bit. Mostly stayed on bearing and tried to read terrain and mostly worked - though was standing quite befuddled when Pav went by at the spring. I had gone wrong way around knoll and nothing looked right. Great Weekend. | ||
