Event: WCOC - US Team Fundraiser B-Meet & Sprint

Orienteering race (Sprint) 12:03 [4] *** 1.5 km (8:02 / km) +50m 6:53 / km
spiked:6/8c shoes: VJ Falcon
Tarrywile Park Sprint - Nice quick course around mansion. Some rather tricky locations among big cliffs caused hesitation (actually saw this one from start area before race and still couldn't find it), also misinterpreted a trail to 7.
Orienteering race 1:08:08 [4] *** 6.95 km (9:48 / km) +300m 8:04 / km
spiked:11/15c shoes: VJ Falcon
Tarrywile Red - 65, Sunny clear, peak leaf peeping, beaut day. Hard run hitting all the hills in this hilly park. Started off too fast after sprint and blew 2 and 3 by not focussing enough. Low and too far to 2 and way too L and low to 3. Not picking off features to either. Settled more with only slight bobble to 4 going to R hill. Fine after that.

Nice course - Thanks Sergei and Greg.

Event: WCOC Cranbury - Sprints

Orienteering race 24:38 [4] *** 3 km (8:13 / km)
spiked:9/10c weight:150lbs shoes: VJ Pro 1
Cranbury Park Sprint 2 - 40, grey, damp, breezy. Cold day. New map in Norwalk Park used by lots of dog walkers, with the expected result to shoes. Did 2 first. Nice course with lots of trails and other features to keep track of. Clean run except for 4- standing just above it and didn't see it for a few seconds, and 6 - #8 was directly on the line from 5 to 6 with only a break in the line. At a quick early look, I thought it was a butterfly loop. It wasn't till I actually got to the bag and checked the number that I realized error. Probably affected route choice.
Orienteering race (Sprint) 20:15 [4] *** 2 km (10:08 / km)
spiked:10/13c shoes: VJ Pro 1
Cranbury Park Sprint 1 - Into a different part of the park. Another nice course. But more bobbles: 3- Put compass on 5 for exit and got real confused when trails didn't line up. Ponder for a bit till got it. 7- Found some confusing extra green and got on a trail I shouldn't have. 10- part of a crappy green section that I didn't quite get a good handle on.

Overall nice map that should work well.

Road run hills 52:00 [4] 5.6 mi (9:16 / mi) +122m 5:24 / km
weight:150lbs shoes: Asics DS Trnr
Collinsville Bakery course from 3/6/05 - 42, grey. Did one loop of course with some stretching after 1 mile. Mile Three is up Rt 202, 300' of steady climb. Estimating the mile marks, did it in about 7.40. Started at easy pace, felt good so pushed a bit harder as continued up. Manchester here I come;-}

Orienteering (Mapping) 2:30:00 [1] ***
weight:150lbs shoes: Verdict DS #2
Northwest Park - 40, blustery, occasional sprink. Ran thru some more of the area, checking trails/contours vs trail map and usgs. Some areas quite good, some quite different, at least in detail. May not really matter too much. Veg needs to be checked tho as changes from open to fight a lot, but predictably in new growth areas from usgs.

Tuesday Oct 25

Strength (nycb 2) 55:00 [1]
weight:150lbs
Normal routine. Getting easier/better at it.

Afterwards tried the balance on one leg with eyes shut drill. Did 30" ok with either leg tho more stable on the L.
Also 1 set each of dble pole, sngle pole. Guess winter is approaching and better get ready.

Trail run 48:00 [1]
weight:150lbs shoes: Verdict DS #1
Purple Tr (to start) - 45, grey, biting. Sluggish, tired from Sunday but thought would loosen up with easy run. Half way along Purple Lyn calls for a pickup to get us out of the slog. Pick up barely picked. No oomph so bailed out at Spring Pond and headed home. Checked brdge for damage from the flood, looked like footing may got a bit washed.
