Saturday Nov 26

Event: NEOC - Mt. Tom

woods run warm up/down 10:00 [1]
weight:152lbs shoes: VJ Pro 1
Mt Tom - 25, grey, 3" new fluffy snow. Jog around to get joints going, seem to have recover from MRR.
Orienteering race 1:49:49 [4]*** 7.3 km (15:03 / km) +360m 12:04 / km
spiked:14/19c shoes: VJ Pro 1
Mt Tom Re Course - 3" fluffy snow with big herd path on direct route (usually). Reasonably good run after an unfocussed start leading to a bobble @2, going to wrong control. Then good, tho bit lucky at 10 - not inspirational. Bobble @ 16 with poor route choice, going to trail rather than straight. Major boom to 17, leaving lower trail at not quite corner, noticing strange terrain (red flag - noted only as pink) and heading off on bearing to wander about in and about for a while. Bailed to upper trail, headed in and still no bag in a reentrant! Major OOPs, looked at clue - side of spur. Still nothing fit. Had a goo, tried to figure series of rocks and cliffs with map and meandered NWish. Hmmm - there's a faded orange thing - only lost 10-12'. What else to do on a nice snowy day.

Once again O managed to be humbling, just when confidence builds to the point that you think you just might have finally got it!

Great course Phil. Enjoyed the tour of Little Mt Tom, not been there for a while. And didn't think the course was too rough. Footing was fine, climb ok tho on the high side (5%).

This event is the anniversary of our start in O, 12 (?) years ago. Been great times ever since.

Thursday Nov 24

Event: Manchester Road Race

Road run warm up/down 25:00 [1]
weight:150lbs shoes: Soloman XA Blue/Yellow
MRR - Jogged down Main St and ran into Phil. Headed back towards start but side tracked for more running, some stretching.
After, ran with Lyn out to spruce st for cool down. Was good as calf had started to knot and this worked it out.
Road run race 34:46 [5]4.75 mi (7:19 / mi) vdot: 43.9
shoes: Soloman XA Blue/Yellow
Manchester Road Race - 20, Lt snow, couple inches overnight that had been cleared very well so roads were wet, but not slippery. To ensure good roads, they had two sand trucks precede the runners filled with green salt (being a very Irish town), so was like running on green sand.

Had a good race. Started with Phil, but saw him disappear into the masses shortly after the start. Had a good first mile, then settled in for the long climb of mile 2, tried to get going again for the #3 down but not much there or for #4. On Center St found concentration gone and was thinking some totally random thoughts, gradually slowing. Realized where I was and tried to get it going for down Main St. 34' was announced just as I was starting the final little up to the finish so thought I had a chance. Made it with time to spare. 12" faster than last year and 5th M60.
Splits: 649, 815, 716, 711, 515

Lyn: Successfully defended her title once again with a 35.47

Wednesday Nov 23

Road run 33:00 [1]3.0 mi (10:59 / mi)
weight:150lbs shoes: Soloman XA Blue/Yellow
Beaver loop - 29, partly cloudy w flakes of snow drifting down, brisk W wind. Warm up/ stretches/ high heels/knees/forms. 2x 6x 10" fast/20" easy. Stopped between to check out progress on beaver dam by bridge. Felt pretty good. Now to survive the snow tomorrow.

Tuesday Nov 22

Strength (nycb 2) 55:00 [1]
Abs, balance
Getting easier as time goes on. Or just distracted by other problems.

Monday Nov 21

Trail run 40:00 [1]3.0 mi (13:19 / mi)
weight:151lbs shoes: Verdict DS #1
Short loop - 55, sunny turning grey, damp feel. Easy run with a few speed strides thrown in. Trying to recover from the frustration of latest debacle in Manch!

Sunday Nov 20

Trail run long 59:00 [1]
weight:151lbs shoes: Soloman XA Blue/Yellow
Wilcox Park (Wintonbury Rd to T'ville chimney on Blue Tr/retn by water twr rd) - 50, sunny, clear. Great day, nice run on one of our favorite routes. Great views of both CT riv and Farmington R valleys.

Had to skip the Traverse this year being careful of a lingering knee problem before Manchester. Trav is one of the best events. I even like the old map! So did a great run instead and then watched the U girls win the NIT! Great start to the season.
