| Event: WCOC - Sessions Woods C-Meet & Sprint | ||
| Orienteering race (Sprint) 28:34 [4] *** 2.2 km (12:59 / km) | ||
| spiked:10/12c weight:150lbs shoes: VJ Pro 1 | ||
| Sessions Woods Sprint - 30, sunny, 12-14" new fluffy snow. Tracks in directions of most controls (thanks Peter) and generally followed tho ignored on way to 6 to my demise. Rest went very well, thanks to ski/altitude training as the running was heavy going yet fun, esp downs. | ||
| Orienteering race 1:14:37 [4] *** 4.98 km (14:59 / km) | ||
| spiked:11/12c shoes: VJ Pro 1 | ||
| Sessions Woods Green - Same conditions as sprint though more going through the open snow (fun) instead of broken track. Good run all around, just hesitated on spur at 10.
Interesting to see bow hunter up tree on way to 6. Apologized for all the disturbance to his quietude, on way past - quickly. Good meet. Thanks Charlie for great courses. Snow made for extra effort and good training going into winter recovery time.

| Phase 3 of Snow - Home. After watching the light fluffy stuff fall all week At Vail and seemingly barely accumulate, then dump in Chicago for 9" and a plane skid in a day, we got 12" this morning in about 6 hrs. Nice fluffy stuff at first, tho nothing like CO, and started to get heavy and sticky as finished clearing the drive - so we can go O at Sessions Woods tomorrow;-}
Though these were supposed to rest days after the extended skiing, not sure. Still very weary from the travel, shovelling and perhaps a bit of the skiing. Back sore from sitting in the a/c seats.
Thursday Dec 8 | ||
| Note | ||
| Chicago - Phase 2 of snow. Funny how these things catch up to you. After enjoying wonderful snow for a week skiing in CO, guess what was waiting in Chi town? 9" of blowing stuff, though not as cold, still effective in turning things to slow and causing a 4 hr delay leaving. Arrived home about 2 am, very tired but wired from the travel. Checked the weather channel for Phase 3 of snow. | ||
Wednesday Dec 7 | ||
| Skiing (dh) 2:00:00 [2] | ||
| Vail : +10 to -5F, cold but sun out but not very warming. The days are adding up. Today was a slow tired day. Had some good runs but loggy after yesterday's hard effort. Also snow was very slow because was so cold and fresh, 5" overnight. Made for hard pushing whenever it flattened out a bit. Headed in early after getting sloppy. Now pack up and head to a/p tomorrow early. Back to the flat lands. Great week - great snow, good times. | ||
Tuesday Dec 6 | ||
| Skiing (dh) 5:00:00 [3] | ||
| Vail - another super powder day. Temp a bit warmer hovering around 10 all day, with constant snow throughout. Powder everywhere, even on the newly groomed stuff. Lots of wonderful skiing. Only a couple of short breaks for caffeine infusions.
So far this season Vail has had 140" of snow, a record year. Lucy picked a great time to get married. Wohoo!
Monday Dec 5 | ||
| Skiing (DH) 2:00:00 [3] | ||
| Vail - 0, another 4" overnight, grey tending to sun by end of day. Another cold one. Had some good runs - esp Woods, a mix of powder, chopped powder, bumps and more powder. Hammered that a few times. Then went in for some lunch but got a big creamy chicken soup which sat like a lump and finished us for the afternoon. After a couple more runs headed down. Guess the days are starting to catch up as well. Still great snow and fun time. | ||
Sunday Dec 4 | ||
| Skiing (Downhill) 3:30:00 [3] | ||
| Vail - Temp somewhere between -9 to +12 F, there was no consistency on the thermometers on the lifts - just that it was cold and blowing. It was so cold that all the normal people were huddled in the lodges - no lines, great snow! How good can it get.
Another great day ranging around the front slopes of Vail. Great snow, some groomed but lots of skied powder, still nice. Wedding's done and the honeymooners are off to Jamaica, so we'll just have to use up all this snow. Just figured this kind of skiing is like a long interval workout - 60" of intense knee workout, stop to gasp for breath, repeat until you get to a lift for a 5-10' lift ride and with no lines, that rcy can be brief. Knees and calves are feeling it. Wonderful.
