| Pavlina's Shop-O - 60, humid, very wet woods from much rain last few days. All water features and low spots overflowing.
Good fun event: Go grocery shopping with $17.42 to get must item at one of the 20 controls. Each control had picture of an item but no price. Closest to get their must item plus any others for a total of $17.42 or less wins, but must finish first to find out prices. And can only get 12 items. Went to 12 items but thought I was running over as my first item was Godiva ice cream - that has to be expensive! So didn't punch the last control - mayo which turned out to be $3. I got a total of $13.40 or so for fourth. Winner got $16. So if I had punched the mayo, would have had it. Good fun on a hobbly day. Good O all way around but didn't warm up and L calf was very sore with every step running during early part, esp on road. In woods gradually loosened some and was able to move ok but not fast at all. Thanks Pavi, good time.

| Light rain all day so far that was supposed to be heavy t-storms, not yet. So we headed to the shoe store to look at new ones. Got some plus a rolly stick to work on L calf which remains v tight. Working the Stick just a bit and the calf tightened right up. So motrin, heat and more rolling off and on. Then just take it easy, get out press releases for our Bethel Schools meet and mellow. | ||

| Trail run 1:04:00 [1] 6.0 mi (10:40 / mi) | ||
| weight:151lbs shoes: Asics DS Trnr | ||
| Purple Loop - 82, v humid, threatening t-storms, mosq attack at any stops plus one weak fdf. Good run - Lyn got feisty a couple times and stepped things up. We got into a good stride. Soaked by the end and nothing dried. | ||
| Hiking 1:00:00 [1] | ||
| shoes: Salomon XA Pro | ||
| Mowing lawn in afternoon - still v hot and humid. Dew point supposedly near 70, ugh. Hurrying to beat T'strom which hit just after I finished. Sky had turned very dark with lots of boomers. Did get a quick shower first.
Wild life sighting: we've had a pileated woodpecker comethrough the last few days. Likes to land in the veggie garden and peck away or the back woods. Really neat. Big thing - Woody Woodpecker lives!

| Westminister - Thought I might try to follow HTC track work outs from last year, starting with a time trial to get base point. As haven't done much this spring while trying to get over knee and calf problems, wasn't at all sure how this would go. Turned out very similar to last year: 3 seconds faster which is really the same. Splits were basically the same. Found this to be harder as was all alone (Lyn decided to run the Purple loop thru the woods and stay away from the track). Much different without others to key on, kibbitz with. Also was hard winning the argument with that little internal voice that kept telling me that 4 laps was just fine - you can STOP now! Oh- okay then, one more but that's the last. You proved you can do it with six, the sun's coming out; it's getting hot; let's go home. Don't you just want to drown that little voice sometimes.
Splits: time, avgHR, maxHR 1.45.8, 146, 161 1.49.3, 158,161 1.47.1, 161, 163 1.47.0, 165,171 = 7.09 1.47.9, 167, 169 1.48.2, 170, 179 1.48.1, 171, 176 1.45.6, 173, 176 = 7.10

| Trail run long 3:40:00 [1] ** 9.8 mi (22:27 / mi) | ||

| Tunxis Trail, W half of Burlington section - 85, v humid to start then eased up mid way. Parked at TH on W side of Sessions, heading W on main tr along mile of Ledges - they are ledges and this is one very rough section (2.2 mile in an hour), past the Bear Cave to the Yellow Dot Tr - N. Passed Tory Den and on N on more mellow trail to White Dot E to almost Rt 69. Took unmapped mb trail S back almost to car. This trail cut out either a long road run or an extended trip thru Nassahegan SF, but turned out very windy and may have been just as long.
Interesting how little things have changed: Tory Den got its name during the Revolutionary War when the local Tories used it as a hideout when the "Patriots" came "visiting". It's really a small rock feature with a small tunnel beneath a section and a bit larger section to take shelter. Long easy run, weary at the end and knees feel it but held up well. May be on the mend but will not make any claims yet.
