| Bethel School Sprints - 95, hazy, humid. First of summer, all a sudden - yuck. Good run. Able to keep steady pace and read ahead mostly though not enough for 5 - should have gone right instead of considering going thru dark green and 9 - tried to sneak beside a fence with dark green up to it and then ran into an unmapped fence. Back and around.

| Bethel Sprint #2 - Still hot. Another good run, steady and reading ahead. Bad route out of 2 through woods and stuff; should have gone back out on roads to L. Also took flyer out of 5 taking trail thinking cool in woods would be nice but bit longer and slower climbing back up to road and heat didn't matter. Otherwise good run.
Nice job Rick and Susie - thanks.

| Waterfall Tr- - 68, grey, humid, starting to sprinkle as we finished. More rain! It was supposed to be hot today? What's going on?
Nice run, good steady pace. Felt comfortable and set good rythym, not pushing. Sightings: Rather exciting! On way out heard a loud bleat! just in front of me and a large deer crashed across the trail about 20m in front. Bleated again and disappeared. As we started up again after stopping to wonder about this strange occurrance, it bleated again about 30m off into the woods and went off. Never knew deer to make any noise, except maybe during fall mating season. Then on the way back and almost to the road, we heard some crashing off in the woods, about 60m off. Thought it was some sticks or part of tree falling, but sharp eyed Lyn looked over and claimed to see a Bear! Sure enough! We eventually got in a position to look through the woods at a black bear staring at us staring at him. We all had second thoughts about the situation, and he turned and moseyed off further into the woods and we went on down the trail. Lyn looked back to see him still checking us out. Guess he didn't fancy two scrawny joggers when there was good deer meat around. Was really pretty - black coat with a brown muzzle.

| More exceitment - A bear just walked past our backdoor on his way to our neighbor's to try to get his bird feeders. Most of his feeders are inside but a couple are still out hung pretty high up a rather small tree. The bear quite agilely climbed into the tree but couldn't get to the feeders. He's headed off for further forays. | ||

| Trail run tempo 1:00:00 [1]6.0 mi (10:00 / mi) | ||
| weight:151lbs shoes: NB1060 | ||
| Purple loop - 70, clear, warm on road in sun but as soon as we got into the woods, was nice and cool. Nice easy run at steady pace, enjoying the run. The trail was lovely and soft, damp pine duff under foot with its wonderful aroma. The overnight rain left a cool dampness to the woods, and a light breeze gave a nice cooling effect. A run to savor. Even the slight tweaks didn't bother. | ||

| Cycling (Road) 50:00 [1] | ||

| RAAS - 70, sunny, NO Wind! Easy spin ride around town to recover from long run and rest knees. R Knee twinged with initial peddling and then later a bit on slight rises. But no great adventures or side wind gusts to disturb us. Pretty mellow day until we got back and read the news about Bro' - Bummer. | ||

| Blue Tr-Horse Tr - 65, sunny, dry, clear - perfect day. Great day for a run and it was a great run - almost (later). Got a good warm up and then hit the blue tr hills with a long down hill and able to push it pretty well. Took a side trip at N end on trail over to Granby park to get a drink (details later). Then did the horse tr S. Got into a real nice flow along the flat part and pushed to the Canton Rd TH. Out to road to head home rather than finishing on the tr and the final ups & downs. Knees/legs felt great throughout the trail run. Went about 100 m on the road and R knee twinged. Cut the route to shorter more direct.
Animal encounter - During the side trip to get a drink, we approached two women with two dogs walking towards us on the trail. They got the dogs, Weimeromers, on leash as we approached. We slowed, said hi and I passed them. Then heard a cry from Lyn just behind. One of the dogs, a puppy supposedly, jumped at her and bit her on the upper left chest. The woman pulled it off and away and we got out of there after inspecting the damage - two long scratch marks from the canines and a substantial bruise. Of course this was at the furthest part of the run, but we made the run back tho the jiggling didn't help. Who votes for shooting all dogs for sausage! Then tonight's news announced a black bear being hit by a car on Rt 20, half mile from our dog incident. A motorcyclist tried to avoid the accident, slid and was killed. The bear ran off into the woods. And our neighbor came home over the weekend to find a bear sitting in their driveway. Fun in the 'burbs.
