Trail run warm up/down 20:00 [1]
shoes: VJ Integrator
Long warmup as legs felt dead going up slightest rise. Jogged around as much as possible avoiding pavement, even a little bit in a small patch of woods that seemed out of the way. Then stretch and jog to start.
Orienteering race 57:39 [4]*** 5.13 km (11:14 / km) +100m 10:14 / km
spiked:13/14c shoes: VJ Integrator
CNYO A meet @ Lime Hollow - Green - 70, rain started just as I was called up. Didn't really notice in the woods tho glasses fogged up. Should have used the second Fogtech packet. Temp dropped and was good running. Warm u p worked and felt good (er, GREAT) thruout.
Hesitant to 1 trying to be careful, then bobbled 2 after seeing Ron Bortz standing at a trail junction - should be long gone. Rest went fine. Caught Pete on way to 4, Ron again going to 5, Charlie and Brad going to 6/7. Then with Charlie most of the way around. He got away on trail after 11 when a forelorn cadet pleaded for help - Been out here for hours. Can you help! Spent 30" pointing out the trail to take. Then off. Watched the cadets drive off so guess he made it. Then caught up to Charlie again after the Great Swamp crossing, but he roared by up the hill to the finish. When he smells the barn, there is no stopping him.

Nice clean run but Bob did also for 57:01 for 3 out of 3. Good running.

Nice course by Ann on a good map by Mark for a real fun weekend by CNYO. Thanks much to all.

Classic - Green - Splits

Saturday Sep 23

Event: CNYO A meet

Trail run warm up/down 30:00 [1]
shoes: VJ Integrator
CNYO A-Meet - 65, wet but break in rain which was heavy earlier and started again as we left.
Jogging around before both events, stretching.
Orienteering race 14:26 [4]*** 1.83 km (7:53 / km) +50m 6:56 / km
spiked:12/13c shoes: VJ Integrator
Old Eyes Sprint @ CNYO - Good run except 2, lost minute or so looking for W end of thick veg rather than bend in stream - duh! Rest ok picking correct trail or path thru goldenrod.
Orienteering race 40:11 [4]*** 3.52 km (11:25 / km) +115m 9:49 / km
spiked:10/13c shoes: VJ Integrator
Middle Course - Green, CNYO - Fairly good run but allowed myself to get distracted by others in parts, mainly keeping an eye on Walter after he caught me by 2. Then lost him after 6 but had followed his route into slash and never really got into leg until had crossed main stream at bottom of valley. Back up for a 4' error. Also not so good route to 1 (thru parking lot? Why?) lost another 1' or so. After 6 was mainly alone (try to keep ahead of Bob L).

Interesting set of courses. Nice job Barb and CNYO.

Thursday Sep 21

Trail run 59:38 [1]6.0 mi (9:57 / mi)
weight:145lbs shoes: Attack II
Purple loop - 58, clear, dry, brisk NW wind. Fall is coming. Finally seem to have recovered. This felt quite good heading out and was a good effort. Did some speed strides: 15" hard/20" rcy * 3 with 5' jog in between.
Strength 30:00 [1]
Splitting wood for an hour or more, then had a nice soak. Interesting surprise when took the cover off - two little frogs (or toads) were hunkered at the top of the wood. Gently set them in the lawn to find another home.
Note
Just heard from Lucy - She got 6" of snow yesterday and it's dumping now. Expect 10" tonight. Winter hits the high country.

Wednesday Sep 20

Cycling (Road) 1:00:00 [1]
weight:146lbs
W Simsbury loop w hill portion - 63, clear, sunny dry autumn day. Great day to be out, leaves just starting to change. Nice steady pace around the loop.

Tuesday Sep 19

Trail run 1:06:00 [1]6.0 mi (10:59 / mi)
weight:147lbs shoes: NB1060
Purple loop - 70, humid, grey - Hard to get going and struggled all way around except a brief middle flat section where Lyn started to stride out, so went along. Couldn't keep it going for long and became a trudge in the end, walking some of the ups. Generally tired all day and stiff from bending over chasing buggies yesterday. Went after them again today - still a few around but lots of stiff ones. So maybe under control for a bit. Will have to keep watch, tho the season is almost over.

Monday Sep 18

Note
weight:147lbs (rest day)
Spent the afternoon trying to catch up with the garden activity. Just as we were leaving Fri, Lyn rushed in alarmed - all sorts of ugly grey bugs had taken over some of the yellow squash plants. Going thru the available defensive mechanisms in the garage turned up only a spray bottle with soapy water. Everything else of more offensive nature had dried up from lack of use. So as a long shot, sprayed all that dared to be seen, and headed off for the sprints.

Turned out to be quite effective. Those that got a good drenching were left immobilized on the leaves not to bother anything. Today we stopped by the nursery for more positive and aggressive steps. Bugs were identified as 'squash bugs' - Gee, these guys are so creative. And we got some insecticidal soap spray to go after them with. All this soap, we sure will have clean plants. Seemed to work on those that dared to show their grey bodies. Just had to spend much of the afternoon bent over looking under leaves checking out the situation. Then turned compost and called it a day.
