| Surebridge Chall Day 1 - 60, clear with light clouds at start to keep it cooler, getting warm as run goes. Tried to be very careflu and keep in contact. Bobbled 3, continuing on R stream and missing turn to L & bag. 7, headed R on main trail, missing bottle tr for a bit. Stopped when turn didn't happen and realized problem. Turned L and straight up to bag. L calf knotted badly just as hit that main trail; was able to run it out though the knot remains. Major problem with 10: Stayed R out of 9 going low with intention of going over rock flat. Missed it and went up later, passing control that turned out to be Day 2 #7. Then down into lots of mt laurel that is mapped as rough open with trees! WTF? Struggled thru trying to figure location and not trusting map now. Finally hit trail and rest was fine.

Green - Day 1 - Splits | ||
Friday Apr 20 | ||
| Trail run 36:00 [1] | ||
| weight:149lbs shoes: DS Trainer XII | ||
| Beaver Tr - 55, clear - finally. Good run with sets of random length strides/rcy both ways. Felt good. Back still stiff but doesn't bother on run, just sitting around. So as Lyn will say= Get off your butt! | ||
Thursday Apr 19 | ||
| Trail run 51:00 [1] | ||
| weight:146lbs shoes: DS Trainer X | ||
| Purple loop, shortened to drop down by Spring Pond - 48, grey to start, clearing and sunny by end. Easy run to loosen legs though not feeling all that spritely.
Back has been bothering since after Sunday, probably from carrying the controls in one hand and running. Mon, the muscle on my lower R back was tight, same side as held control bag. Same Tues but improving. Wed went birdwatching out in cold and after entire lower back was tight, as it remains today, esp if sit around. Ok once moving around - spent afternoon turning compost, cutting down grasses and picking some of the winter debris. Spring is threatening. More flower out - daff almost. Finished "Silence of the Grave" Another iceland saga.
Tuesday Apr 17 | ||
| Trail run 1:06:00 [1] 6.0 mi (10:59 / mi) | ||
| weight:147lbs shoes: Salomon XA 2 | ||
| Purple loop - 40, lt rain at start, bit of sun by end. Maybe the deluge has ended! No - has started again. Easyish run, felt good at start but became a plod. So threw in some speed strides - 15 paces hard/30 easy.
Trails well drained for all the rain. Only one short section of the horse trail remained under water. Other long sections of trail/road had been well scrubbed along the stream, er- river. Stream was right up to its banks but had been up at least another foot flowing down the woods road along side for major stretches. So we had to go check out the bridges which had all become dislodged last year after much less water flow. All were in excellent shape though the approaches on all three had been flooded over. The rebuild was well done. Only one of the bridges had water reach it with evidence of debris on the deck and it was in good shape.

| This is the Official Announcement! - Spring is here. Or in other words, I took the snows off and have summers on. So no more yuck weather. | ||

| 5 Ponds - Control Pickup - 38, rain, sleet, bit of snow on grd, lots of water in those types of features. Early part of Nor'easter, seems to have been enough to scare everyone off! exc Rick who came along late to pickup controls. As it was, the lack of the normal hoards by 10:30 led us to pickup early. Lyn got the Greens, I got the Reds, and Peter Grollmann got the rest.
Nice courses by Peter. G/R did the same first 10 controls and the Red went off into the nice section to the SE using a 1:15 map. Did the course backwards sort of in a score-o sort of way. Haven't been on a 1:15 course for a while and adjusted quickly. Map works quite well, though some of the green has grown out and some hunter trails have been added. Ran in UA which worked fine exc tended to cool off and hands got wet and cold untying the controls and throwing them in a bag. Fun day in the cold rain/sleet/snow. Ooo! forgot the garbage bag and space blanket and the SAR and the camelback and the safety plan....
