| Orienteering warm up/down 20:00 [1] | ||
| weight:150lbs shoes: VJ Integrator | ||
| Huntington - 75, sunny. Trying to loosen up the back and get moving. | ||
| Orienteering race 1:49:01 [4]*** 7.7 km (14:09 / km) | ||
| spiked:14/22c shoes: VJ Integrator | ||
| Huntington Red - Ok at first but tired out towards end and slowed. Took some time to get into it for some pretty sloppy O. First 5 was off L or R a bit on each. Quickly recovered. Never found bag at 13, strange mapping there. Doesn't sound like the feature is on the map per Lyn's description.
Overall a fun course. Thanks Petr and Libby.

| Back continues to be a bother, so heading to doctor in a few minutes. Think it's just stiffness, but doesn't want to go away. | ||
| Note | ||
| Doctor pushed and prodded and whacked with the hammer thing. Didn't think it was neurological, probably strained muscle. Told me to take Aleve for a week, sit with good lumbar support (not like now sitting with no support at the kitchen table), and use knees not back to pick things up. Call again in 2 wks if no improvement. Then xrays which just showed normal wear of arthritis and being old. | ||

| AOWN: Fledge Day - What excitement. This morning we could see nothing in the wren nest. Parents came and went but no sign of young. Mid day we could see one open mouth in the shadow of the nest opening. Woohoo! we have a baby. Parents would come with a bit of worm and take away a bit of shell.
This afternoon we could see a bird at the edge of the feeder and two more mouths in the shadow. An hour later one fluttered to the window sill, a commitment of 12" and drop of 6". Fluttered for several minutes along the sill and then off. A most unstable, barely airborne example but it made it to the side wood patch of pachysandra with parents hovering about. That turned out to be #2. Just then a little fuzzy blob started to hop across the grass in the same direction (fortunately shorter as Lyn had just cut it). He made it. #3 could be seen poking its head out and trying to flutter. Parents attention was now on the other two, all now hopping about the wood pile, learning the techniques of mobility. Half hour later, #3 is no longer in the nest and cheeping sounds can be heard in the area directly below but no sign of it. Parents attention remains with 1 and 2. We shall see. Once again we are empty-nesters;-}

| Trail run warm up/down 30:00 [1] | ||
| weight:148lbs shoes: Attack II | ||
| WH Reservoir - 80, sunny, humid. What happened to spring? 20' before - jogging to start and then trying to jog back after. | ||
| Orienteering (Trail/control pick) 40:37 [4]*** 4.4 km (9:14 / km) +75m 8:30 / km | ||
| spiked:10/13c shoes: Attack II | ||
| WH Reservoirs, Main area - The objective today was fast running on longish legs with a couple detail points to get, repeat. Laid out a course in the S part of the map with many trails. Controls were obvious features (hopefully as haven't been here for a while). So run hard for legs of 500 to 1k or so, then 2 to 4 short legs and off again. To make things even better, summer arrived with temps in the 80s and humid.
The main troubles were with not obvious features and lack of orange bag, so had to hunt. Gave up on two - found one when leaving to next leg and other when ran second course. The third was at a cliff that I couldn't see under the purple line and stopped too soon. Found the correct one on the second course also. Good, fun drill. Total run - 5.77k
| Orienteering (Short) 13:36 [4]*** 1.37 km (9:56 / km) | ||
| spiked:6/6c shoes: Attack II | ||
| WH Res, Short course on 1:5000 - Cut this one short as Lyn was just finishing hers as I came thru to head for the second half of the course, and I was cooked by then anyway. This was a short course shuffle of the control points, to be 2.4k but did less than half. Did manage to find two of the missing points from the first run. Woods were a mix - some really nice stuff, some slash and thick stuff, and of course being WH Res many areas of rocky ground though these courses seemed to avoid it.
A lot of the logging from several years ago appears to have settled and is now runnable. Some though must be more open and is growing up with thick green. Interesting to overlay the trail routes over the map. There are many small trails with discrepancies though the main trails seem to be right on. Some of the points are also off a bit. Still it's a nice map and will try some more of these to prepare for summer trips.

| Trail run long 1:07:16 [1]6.0 mi (11:12 / mi) | ||
| weight:148lbs shoes: DS Trainer X | ||
| Purple loop - 68, sunny, seems to be getting humid, not ready for heat yet.
Tried out my new EMSBack. Rides nicely and comfortable. Should work. Slog of a run. Still seem groggy from w.e. runs and long drive. No energy so putz along enjoying the woods and the seranading of the song birds, really out in force. Wish we could recognize more of the songs, would be a real AOWN run. AOWN: meanwhile we do have our own new family going. Carolina Wrens have taken up residence in an abondoned birdfeeder that our son had outside his window way back when. We had seen the wrens all winter, then new grassy stuff in the feeder and now the wrens swooping in and out with little worm bits. Really fun. We had House Wrens last summer in a wren house in the front woods, but this is just outside the second floor window - the first step will be a long one.

| Team Trial Day 3 - 55, breezy and cool at start, sunny.
Generally good run with a few bobbles, mainly getting caught up in green at a couple points, like leaving 9 to get to campground (as if we couldn't see all the green from our tent), and approaching 12. Again quite different from home terrain with the depression/hill woods. Green not that different for the most part. Fun course. 1st M60; 7th Green X (today and for the 2 days.) Great job on courses and meet. Thanks to SMOC. Do another one soon!

| TT Day 3, Pontiac Lk, MI - Run to start. We were going to take Steven to start but he seemed to have gone on while we were getting ready. Not around the campsite so jog to start. No Steven. Ok, jog back to car. Ah there's Steven; had gone to check out Finish. Good idea. We jog back to start. Steven jogs along quite well, discussing the event, Gu other things until we decide to walk final little hill. Was good as needed the extra to get body going.
Note: Campers in next row must have been enjoying Cinqo de Mayo. They had their computer music list playing during the evening and nattering away. Fortunately they decided to turn in - at 3:30! Could tell this was an RV type campground and everyone else was bundled inside. Ours was the only tent we saw.
| Note | ||
| After a longish drive back across Ont, checked into our friendly Super 8 overlooking Lake-O and then headed out for some fine pizzasumption at Boston Pizza. Tuscan pizza - very nice. | ||
