| Billygoat at Thacher by EMPO - 60, clear after morning rain and lots on Sunday. Trails/woods very wet.
Good run though slow. Wasn't sure how this would go, if at all, but once underway was able to move at easy jog pace but had no push. Walked up hills which was ok for the long course. Still able to keep going right to end. A few bobbles such as not being sure where crossed streams going to 3, being a bit L to 5 and hesitations into 18, 19, 20,21. Lost about 4' at 7L by passing it too high and into green beyond and 3' by going up wrong trickle at 22. Met up with Lyn at 8 and ran with her from 9 on, or at least tried to keep up with her. Fun day on a very nice course. Good job by Glen and all the folks at EMPO - thanks.

| Hip and leg felt fine throughout the run and afterwards, all evening in fact. Amazing things - those endorphins. Actually it felt better today as well (Monday). Only problem was major cramping of L foot as was taking shoe off after awards, nicely massaged into reasonable condition by Ken - thanks. | ||
Billygoat XXIX - Splits
Saturday May 19 | ||
| Event: Billygoat | ||
| Trail run 35:00 [1] | ||
| weight:147lbs shoes: DS Trainer X | ||
| Tobacco Roads - 50, misty. An attempt at running to see if there is any change. L foot still slaps when on the pavement but not on softer surfaces like the trails or grass. Then it scuffs. Tried varying strides but have little control, no bounce. Was a real task.
Still was a nice run - stopped at second pond to stretch a bit and flushed a great blue heron. Was then squawked at by red-wing black birds and a nervous Baltimore oriole. Lots of others I couldn't identify.

| Another round before brkf to loosen up the pain from the pillow top. It gradually diminishes but the hip still is sore and the numbness of the left calf remains. The calf aspect is bothersome as it involves the fine muscle control of the foot and ability to balance.
So this is 4 days in a row. Hmmm - need a new routine though this works the full range. Better than the cold wet outside.

| Another loosening up session before breakfast. Got a bit further into it, to plies and tendus, before got hungry. Back continues to hold up but hip seems to be aggravated by sleeping on back, pillow top getting to me? | ||

| Cycling (Road) 1:15:00 [1] | ||
| N Granby - 65, sunny. Headed N on longer, slightly hillier route - Bushy Hill, N Granby, East St, Hungary Rd, Canton Rd. Try to keep good spin going. Nice ride. Bum bit sore from earlier ride. Need to build up for hills. | ||

| Really stiff and sore leg first thing this morning so Lyn suggested some stretching to loosen up before going on the bird walk. Did the warmup, stretches and ab work. Was barely able to touch ankles in the toe touch stretch, like thinking of leaning forward was the limit.
Then out slowly walking with the birders which I thought would have killed the leg but only minor hip pain. Saw a bunch of birds, some attracted by the leader's bird-pod. It really gets the local bird upset that there's an intruder in its turf.

| So with all that morning loosening, attacked the garden: turned over the compost heap and turned three rows of the garden Back didn't seem to mind and leg was ok. By the end was easily able to touch toes. Probably be back to square one tomorrow morning so I can start over again. | ||
Tuesday May 15 | ||
| Strength (nycb 2) 55:00 [1] | ||
| Wasn't sure if this could happen as hip/leg were quite sore during night; however, the stretching and exercises felt good. Bit shaky on some of the balance moves so need to do this more often, been slaking lately. | ||
Monday May 14 | ||
| Cycling (Road) 45:00 [1] 10.0 mi (4:30 / mi) | ||

| W Simsbury loop - 65, sunny. As can barely walk with this sore leg, decided to see if I could ride a bike. In addition to the L hip and shin being sore, seems I must have pulled a groin muscle or something in the back/inside of the thigh some where along the last few days. Probably while deadened by the Aleve. Damn medical industry - go see the doc for my back. He managed to fix that - back is fine now - but now the leg makes things worse overall. Can only hobble around. Stopped the Aleve as that's the only difference from Friday morning besides going to the sickness store. Ugh!
Anyway - nice to be back on the bike though not in any shape for major riding yet. Got good spin going and leg felt fine. So guess will be concentrating on that for a while.
