Sunday May 27

Trail run 1:00:00 [1] ** 4.0 mi (14:59 / mi)
weight:148lbs shoes: Attack II
Wilcox Park - 75, grey sun, lots of mossies. Checking trails around park with FR to get good record. Found some new ones and a hidden chimney tucked away. Neat area with good trails, mixed woods, some good vertical up to ridgeline. Talked to guy living in park bldg who thought town might be interested in an O map of the area. May have to check it further. (Actual time was 86' but discounted the talk time plus some slow mooching around.)
Note
Training status - At end of Week 21, have recorded 158 hours or 91% of ytd goal. Went much easier for the spring racing season than had laid out. Will have to relook in prep for summer trip, not currently in plan.

Saturday May 26

Cycling long (Road) 1:45:00 [2] 20.22 mi (5:12 / mi)
weight:147lbs
E Hartland v Firetown Rd/Rt 20/Direct back - 85, sunny, occasional breezy. Hill route - Decided to give hills a try with this good test route: climbs 1000' in 4.5 mi. Took 30' going up, 10' coming down. Felt good overall and legs felt ok. Longer ride was good to get feel back. Felt quite perky even in final steep little beaver hill.

Hip and leg seem to be getting better, esp during the day. At night tho, the set position develops into a sharp soreness in the hip joint. It gradually relieves as I move around. Still a bit of slapping when walking.

Friday May 25

Cycling (mtb) 36:00 [2] 3.46 mi (10:24 / mi)
weight:147lbs
Tobacco Fields over to trails near Skating Center - 85, clear, getting warm. Took a while to get shifters to work, seem to have been gummed up. Squirt of WD-40 - magic.

Workers in the fields; not sure what they will be growing as no nets but something's been planted. So stayed in S trails. Trail motor bikes have cut a short network of very wandery trails through woods on a neat spur system with lots of interesting depressions - could be a nice O map. Good effort: haven't forgotten how, need more rides to balance rhythm back but fun start.

Thursday May 24

Trail run 40:00 [1] 3.0 mi (13:19 / mi)
weight:147lbs shoes: DS Trainer XII
Beaver Trail - 75, clear. Trial run to see how the leg worked. It seemed to be much better yesterday as the day progress: able to balance ok, walk without the ball slap. Morning may be too early. Started ok along the road, got about half way (of .75mi) and lower leg started acting tired and the slap developed. Stretched and ran the trail. Going out was a slog. Had to concentrate on every foot placement and to try to keep up with L. Turned around and led. Tried to push to see if that would get better foot placement. Got into a good stride and kept it going. Wasn't any great speed and was a push to keep it going, but felt great. managed to almost the end when ran into a horse brigade and eased to the side to let them pass. Back on the road the slap returned and ran out of gas. Guess the combination of first run in a while and the first real hot day added up.
Note
AOWN - Bear alert;-} Heard a thump out back this afternoon, then saw Lyn on back porch. OK. But then saw a small black bear heading off. Lyn came in and the bear headed back (She hadn't seen it.) She went back out when I told her about the bear and again it headed off, disappearing through the back neighbors woods. Medium-size, probably year-old. It had grabbed the sunflower seed feeder but was chased off before doing more.

Strength 10:00 [1]
weight:148lbs
Early morning stretching/abs to try to loosen up. Not too successful. Back very stiff. Aleve seems to be helping as only very minor pain in hip. Lower leg still has numbness.
Cycling (Road) 47:00 [1] 10.4 mi (4:30 / mi)
W Simsbury loop - 65, clear. Nice easy spin. Legs and bum feeling the consecutive rides. No peacock today.

AOWN - noticed first bird chirps at 4:47 this morning just at grey dusk lightening. Gradually more joined in for a nice chorus. Rolled over and back to sleep.

Tuesday May 22

Cycling (Road) 1:08:00 [1] 14.28 mi (4:46 / mi)
weight:146lbs
W Simsbury w Firetown loop - 65, clear blue nice day. Steady spin with Lyn. Leg issues seem to be settling. May concentrate more on riding for a bit to build quads to balance out hamstrings. Maybe uneven strength from winter running aggravated leg.

Anyway - great ride. Going thru Mcleans area on Firetown is wonderful with the tantalizing woods. Wish they would let us use it.

AOWN - Lyn spotted (actually almost ran into) a peacock!!! It tried to cross the road after I passed and was heading straight at her when a car came by and scared it. We went back to find it, and sure enough. It was hunkered in the woods beside the road. Beautiful irridescent blue. Must be someone's stray pet. Not many of them in CT woods.
Note
Started Aleve again this morning to see if would help relax muscles and aid healing. Seemed to work.

Monday May 21

Hiking 15:00 [1] 1.0 mi (14:59 / mi)
Evening walk around the block. L foot still slapping though no hip pain (almost). Funny issues with foot control remain, like balancing on that leg, proprioception.
