Sunday Jun 3

Event: Trout Brook Valley Local

Friday Jun 1

Trail run intervals 40:00 [4] 3.2 mi (12:29 / mi)
weight:146lbs shoes: DS Trainer X
Mcleans main entrance (as Wed) - 85, hazy, humid. Eastern summer is here. Ran this as an interval/repeats of sorts: After warmup/stretching, did 1k trail run to junction (5'), 2:27' easy jog, 500m long section of hill, 80m up, in 3', another 1k trail, slightly down, in 4:47' and jog out. Good to get some effort into it but still unsteady and not landing right. Fortunately seems to be easing, only slight hip pain at the beginning.

Thursday May 31

Cycling (Road) 45:00 [2] 10.0 mi (4:30 / mi)
weight:146lbs
W Simsbury flat loop - 70, clear. R shoulder/neck in pain throughout this ride. Tried every sort of position to little avail tho finally eased in last few miles. Either it gave up or I was able to ignore it. Symptom started after long ride to Hartland. Eating with R hand and using the mouse, also R hand, aggravate condition. Rest and normal wandering arounds don't bother and alleviate pain. Like it's sore now. I think this position isn't helping - I have a laptop on the kitchen table which is a couple inches too high. Will have to go back upstairs to computer desk (closet door) is at lower height until solution surfaces.

Otherwise a nice ride, a good steady spin, tho Lyn didn't like it towards end when my spin, zoned to ignore shoulder, got me a fair way ahead. Up till then she was right behind.

Wednesday May 30

Trail run 37:00 [3] 3.27 mi (11:19 / mi)
weight:146lbs shoes: DS Trainer XII
Mcleans Main loop cw from Main Entrance - 65, clear sunny day. Avoiding running on pavement so drove over to main gate. Seems contradictory but the slapping continues on hard surfaces. Run started slow, trying to get parts to cooperate. They all gradually came together about 1/3 way around and got into a good effort. Kept altering stride/footwork trying to get a comfortable pace. Was able to get a good stretched-out stride going that almost felt good.

The whole effort continues to amaze. There are a lot more bits involved in the simple action of running than one thinks about until the bits don't cooperate. The simple action of placing the foot down now has become a slap motion of the ball for the L foot on hard pavement but a skid action on softer ground. The things you normally run through with easy stepping becomes an unsure action as the foot just may stray or doesn't feel like it will land as planned. It's even more interesting when one leg remains in good condition and wants to go. So a comparison remains. This is little solace when watching the poor folks returning from Desert Adventure - New T-shirt? Mid-East War Games, 2nd Place. Or is it lower?
Strength (nycb 2) 55:00 [1]
When we got back, figured that a good workout would help the balance/abs, esp as we were all warmed up. Certainly was more flexibility compared to going in straight away in the morning, but still tight.

Tuesday May 29

Trail run long 1:55:00 [1] *** 6.6 km (17:25 / km)
weight:147lbs shoes: Attack II
Coups Sawmill - 70, clear, dry. After TwM, ran more trails at Coups and checked out other bits on the base map like indistinct trails, most were long grown out.

Still love this area - great woods, open with varied terrain.

AOWN: Lyn saw a small, apparently wounded bird scurrying away in an open woods. She stopped, just before stepping on a bird nest. It was a really neat, almost invisible small pile of leaves with a small hole in the side with several small eggs visible inside. We turned and followed the bird away as it fluttered just ahead of it. Couldn't get a good view of the bird but this is a typical ovenbird nest. Both the nests and birds are seldom seen.
Note
R shoulder still sore from bike ride. Hmmm - aches keep piling up.

Monday May 28

Note
weight:147lbs
Was going to go for a short bike ride but drizzle put us off. Besides neck still sore from long ride to E Hartland. So went directly into main task of the day - veggies! Garden is now full: toms, peppers, eggplant, beans, cukes, squashes, more basil. All in addition to the cold crops like lettuce now producing nicely with peas, broc and cab chugging along. Asperagus has been steady. Almost a regular farm report;-}
