Sunday Jun 10

Event: Crandalls Park Sprints

Trail run warm up/down 5:00 [1]
weight:146lbs shoes: VJ Integrator
Crandall's - 70, sunny, nice day. Jogging around trying to unkink L hip. Felt slow, pained.
Orienteering race 26:56 [2] 2.5 km (10:46 / km)
shoes: VJ Integrator
Crandall's Sprint A - Can't give this more than a 2! Slow going, walking hills, took first several controls to remember the process. Tried to run in woods where possible as every L step hurt the joints. Seem to have no spring when running, just shock right up thru body.
More later
Orienteering race 31:47 [4] 2.6 km (12:13 / km)
shoes: VJ Integrator
Sprint B - Shouldn't have taken any time between as things start seizing and take a bit to get going again. But once under way, was a pretty good effort with some fun legs.

Later -
Orienteering race 54:37 [3] 4.44 km (12:18 / km)
shoes: VJ Integrator
Green Course - After another break (and seize up time), off on this. Plan to take it easy, to see what the woods/map are like. First couple controls were warm up again but then loosened up and into reasonable stride. Tired towards end and started catching feet - took one full header into fortunately soft ground. Think I wrenched L forearm though. One more thing.
Played tag with Dean from 3 on, eventually taking a fortuitous route and finishing ahead of him.

Fine day, fun courses, map acceptable for the state it's in, and will be a very nice addition to our map catalog. Nice job Clint/Jim. Thanks.
Stretching (Baltering) 15:00 [1]
After the runs, got excellent back advice from Greg on stretch techniques for back/leg aches. Did a variety on the grass at Crandalls and again at home later at night. Followed that by a nice HOT tub session - that's HOT as in HOT or 110F. Enough to sizzle the tootsies;-} But feels so good.

Sprint A - Splits

Sprint B - Splits

Green - Splits

Saturday Jun 9

Trail run 37:00 [1] 3.0 mi (12:20 / mi)
weight:146lbs shoes: Attack II
Beaver Tr - 68, v humid, misty at start developing into lt rain. Easy loosening up morning run. Work off yesterday's food! Hips complaining, a lot at first but gradually loosening so could get a reasonable stride going.

Thursday Jun 7

Trail run 1:27:00 [3] 6.8 mi (12:47 / mi) +200m 7:17 / km
weight:146lbs shoes: DS Trainer XII
Horse Tr - St Zotique - 60, clear, dry, nice. Tried a long run to see if it was there. Took a while. L hip joint hurt with every step so had to work thru that. Got into good pace going out. Stride seems to be coming back, tho variable. Have noticed that have regained balance on L leg. On way back started to flag and unable to stay with Lyn. Walked a bit and got going again but don't have long range push. Don't know if have lost the conditioning or the ability to tell the legs to go. It's the legs that don't want to go.
Hiking 1:00:00 [1]
shoes: Salomon XA Pro
Mowing lawn - Went for eye exam and they diluted the things. So this was about all I could do and was still difficult seeing detail. And besides the dilating, they say my eyes are diluted - they seem to have gotten stronger in near vision and the astigmatism in the R eye has diminished. So new glasses needed, probably tri's with the new pres. The bad news is the pressure in the R was 27 which they didn't like. Will go back next week for another check.
So spent a couple hours mowing - everything's slowing down. Used to be able to do the lawn in 45'. No more. But still was like a good hike so will log it.

Wednesday Jun 6

Cycling (Road) 1:03:00 [1] 15.0 mi (4:12 / mi) +100m 2:33 / km
weight:146lbs
N Granby loop - Bushy Hill-East St-Day Rd - 60, clear, dry, NW breeze. Wore long sleeve bright yellow shirt.
Good hard ride on rolling route. Felt good.

Hips a bit stiff after run Tu.

Tuesday Jun 5

Note
AOWN - Wren Family #2 - Lyn noticed activity in our little wren house this morning. We've had house wrens nest there off and on over the years, incl last. Had been no sign of them in the house YTD though they have been around the yard, esp since the Carolina wrens fledged and dispersed a few weeks ago. (Can still hear them about.) Today the house wrens were very active around the house, scurrying back and forth and singing away. They have always been on the late side and guess are again this year.
Trail run intervals 50:00 [4] 6 km (8:20 / km) +100m 7:42 / km
weight:146lbs shoes: DS Trainer XII
Mcleans Main Ent - 80, sunny, v humid. Used new Sweatgutr - thanks Clint! Worked well under difficult conditions.

Goal was to test form and fitness, if possible. Wasn't sure if either would be on, but would give it a try. Results - disappointing in both accounts. Struggled with stride form throughout. Could not get comfortable flow. Then fitness faltered. Besides not able to get going, HR maxed during last ones. Will have get HRM back out to be able to monitor better for better control. This was not good.

So activity report: Warmup: jog 1.15k/stretch. Strides: 1k with series of butt kicks, high knees, stride form drills.
7 intervals along main woods road of random length, stopping a convenient break points. Aim was to be about 400m. 5 were from 405m to 525m. 2 were 260m when trail went from nice flat to steep. Pace for the short ones was 4.18'/k (both). The longer ones were ~4.50'/k except one downhill at 4.06/k. The end of the last two were really hard and HR may have been above 180 then. Took long rests at these ones.

Aches - minor L hip soreness but otherwise ok (now, things can change overnight).

weight:145lbs
Another day off. Three days spent mainly on the butt driving. Little activity other than watching kids get married and dodging spears of lightning, watching rain during long drives.

The good news: the aches also seem in abeyance. Guess if you don't, then they won't. Something to be said for this rest stuff.
