Sunday Jun 24

Strength (nycb 2) 55:00 [1]
Didn't feel up to anything more than this so tried to stretch out the back and work the abs.

Saturday Jun 23

Event: WCOC BBQ and Meeting

Trail run warm up/down 5:00 [1]
weight:146lbs shoes: VJ Pro 1
Running around Charlie's to loosen up. Not much in the legs.
Orienteering race 47:20 [3] *** 2.1 km (22:32 / km)
spiked:3/7c shoes: VJ Pro 1
Ratlum Mt Sprint (?) B - 60's, clear, dry, windy. Would be nice to run but had trouble getting going. Rather disastrous sprint affair. Took as long on #6 as a sprint should take - 16' - wandering around in laurel. Charlie needs a good forest fire to make the map usable.

Kept having trouble locating minor trails, veg differences, contours in the veg. And as sweat started to develop and drip off the gutr, the map started to run. Wish I could just run as fast as it. Finished up in a slow jog back. Finding all the controls is about the only thing I can say about the run.
Orienteering race 39:02 [3] *** 2.35 km (16:37 / km)
spiked:9/11c shoes: VJ Pro 1
Sprint A @ Ratlum Mt - Better effort on this second outing knowing what to expect from the woods, trails, veg and not expecting much for time esp after seeing others times during the in-between time.

Still nice outing though certainly doesn't prepare us for the coming weeks.

Sprint A - Splits

Sprint B - Splits

Hiking 1:00:00 [1]
shoes: Salomon XA 2
Mowing yard. 80, clear changing to lt rain during front yard but could see blue sky to west so kept going. Rain passed, skies cleared and all was fine with the world again, or still. Then the clouds decided to re-congregate and darken as I was finishing the back. A few sprinks. Kept going. Finished and rain seemed like it was just a tease. Went in, showered and the heavens opened. Good timing. Continued off and on rest of evening, even as Lyn grilled the chuck! The nerve.

Thursday Jun 21

Stretching 5:00 [0]
weight:146lbs
Morning after run and will do again shortly. Getting more pliable and less pain, just a hint.
Trail run 1:06:00 [2] 6.0 mi (10:59 / mi)
shoes: DS Trainer XII
Purple Tr - 65, clear, dry, nice running conditions. Decided to try Purple. It has a longer road run access and roads have been quite uncomfortable running lately with the awkward foot slap. This was better but not right and going up the hill to the gate highlighted the out-of-condition state that has developed since this injury arose. Could be either a long disappointing trip to Italy/France or a mellow, leisurely enjoy the trip (read sample the ambiance (wine)). Will focus on the latter;-}

After slogging thru the first half, we tried to kick in a few strides to try to shake up the bodies and get things going a bit. Worked and got a good stride going towards the last bridge. Not the best but certainly much better than the start.

Hip/butt had dull ache but otherwise ok. On the woods trails, the foot plant was good.

Wednesday Jun 20

Stretching 5:00 [0]
weight:147lbs
Morning and evening. Felt good.
Note
Garden - spread leaf mulch around veggies. Lyn brought them up in the wheel barrow and I spread it around the rows. Got the drip hoses in and the Tom cages. Need to stake those and all set for bumper crop.

Tuesday Jun 19

Stretching 5:00 [0]
Late afternoon after showering. Forgot in the morning and was stiff.
Orienteering 1:05:00 [2] ***
shoes: Attack II
Paugussett - 80s, sunny, getting humid. As on Sunday - lots of spider webs- Yummmm!
Reran 1 thru 8 Red, then picked up 8 plus 3 Orange controls, Mapped new trail (separate log), then hit 13-15 stopping to visit Gari on the way out - He laughed at the miserable performance from Sunday.

Rerun was good as was able to focus on routes, actually doing my planned route, like to 4 and 5, or trying different approach, 6 ok, 7 not so good tho faster, and running a good route to 8 - much faster time but very careful and slow. Also redid 13 -straight in along water course and straight to spot - hmmm! Safe routes should be prime focus.

Really nice day in the woods exc when stopped to fold controls and the mossies descend upon you. No FDFs though.
Mapping 35:00 [1] ***
shoes: Attack II
Checking out unmapped trail that some found en route from 12 to 13. They should be disqualified for even considering using it. It was like a highway in the woods, an actual woods road the tailed into a streamered path to streamers. Gave up at the streamers and then checked out a yellow blazed trail heading other direction.
Note
Heel blister decided to act up. Had covered it with a large bandaid and neosporin for the last two days and it seemed pretty solid tho tender. Still about 1" diameter but all the old skin was gone (cut it off) and it was a nice red. For today's run thought something more substantial was needed. Lyn found an old Compeed small patch that just covered it. Was not the large form fitting heel type, perhaps a calous type. Gave that a try with one less layer of socks.

About half way around could feel it acting up but manageable. Upon uncovering back at the car, found the Compeed had slipped further down the heel leaving the upper half uncovered. At home Lyn had me soak the feet in Epsom salts to help get the Compeed off. Will now try a layer of Nu-skin, see how that does.
Note
As I was finishing the run and about to go into the car park, I noticed a car further up the road parked in what appeared to be a very up close and personal position with a utility pole at the next corner. Jogged up to check it out. Sure enough. A nice BMW wagon nailed the pole square on the middle of its signature oval front and nicely broke the pole. No one was in the car but it looked like the bag had deployed. On the side street, two women were standing next to a Mazda sports car. They called over that everything was ok. Don't worry.

So back to the car to get the sore feet repaired and some lunch. Mentioned the interesting parking technique used in these parts. She had heard a loud bang a few minutes earlier and saw all the power line waving in the air like on a very windy day, unusual as it was very still. She wandered over to check it out but had nothing further to report.

A bunch more time and the service troops started to arrive: emergency truck, ambulance, fire trucks (2), police (2 cars + 1 motorcycle), a utility repair truck and finally a flat bed that carted the Beemer away.

When we left, the road was blocked off for the utility guys to do their thing. and most of the rest had gone.

Monday Jun 18

weight:145lbs
MwM - Another work detail without the help crew this week. Today we attacked the backyard, giving crewcuts to all the bushes now well overgrown. Plus other general stuff put off for too many years.
Stretching 5:00 [0]
Continuing the back stretches which seem to be really helping a lot. Discomfort is pretty much gone, but won't say any more. Trying Paugussett again tomorrow, picking up the remaining controls. Will retry the central loop. Thought I had that and then just blew up.
