Sunday Jul 29 | ||
| Cycling (Road) 1:10:00 [1] | ||
| weight:145lbs | ||
| Circuit through Granby via Montana's to get a washer for the leaking sink tap (which stopped leaking as soon as we returned home), and then to the bike trail N and home v Hungary Rd, Canton Rd. 85, sunny, humid.d Nice day for a ride instead of trying to run. And L ham is still a bit achy. Guess it will need complete rest for recovery - unlikely;-}
Got home just in time to see the final quarter lap sprint and presentation ceremony. The end of a questionable tour but still very fun. Very good results for those that remained.
| Note | ||
| With respect to healing, this seems to be a fine summary of my approach. And I still can't figure out why it takes so long to recover;-} | ||
| C • that is a great article, I esp... 1 | ||
Saturday Jul 28 | ||
| Strength (nycb 2) 55:00 [1] | ||
| weight:144lbs | ||
| Normal stuff watching the rains come down. L ham still bothersome so better than trying to run. | ||
| Stretching 15:00 [3] | ||
| Hip and lower back stuff after the nycb while Lyn made coffee. Then enjoyed a nice cup while watching the end of the time trial. Good stuff that. | ||
| Hiking 30:00 [1] | ||
| shoes: Attack II | ||
| Tobacco Fields - 80, very, very humid after all day rain and then having the sun come out. Very steamy.
Walked around the fields - now turned over to yellow squash, zucchini, cukes and Hubbards. They must think there is a big market as there are stacks of these things on the vines plus a lot that have been discarded to keep the plants producing. Nice walk but muddy. Squeezed this in between t'storms.
Friday Jul 27 | ||
| Trail run 56:00 [1] | ||
| weight:144lbs shoes: DS Trainer XII | ||
| Mcleans loop, Horse-Purple-Spring Pond - 77, hazy, humid, close.
Hard going this morning. Could not get the body into this one. L hip hurt going out in the deep butt area, perhaps residual from Monday, and seemed to loosen up as went along. Still couldn't get into it and Lyn was going well, worked on form. I tried but not today.
| Stretching 15:00 [0] | ||
| After the run, focussed on lower back and hips. Also tried a new hip technique - walk around on your knees, forwards, backward, sideways. Supposed to subtly grind the surfaces and encourage synovial fluid into the joints. Follow it up by sitting on a table and just swing the legs fore and aft. Further burnishes the surfaces and fluid. | ||
| Note | ||
| FwM - Dr appointment for her but AOWN: As we drove down the street from our house, just after noon, saw a racoon run across the street from the neighborhood area into the marsh/woods (Munnisunk Woods of O fame). Not good to have them out at mid day.
Then on the way home in Tarriffville, a bobcat streaked across the road in front of us - really sleek and fast.
Thursday Jul 26 | ||
| Stretching (Solar Session) 1:00 [0] | ||
| weight:146lbs | ||
| Hammonassett Beach - 80s, clear sun, warm waters, nice sandy beach. Much better use to sit on it than run through it to a finish!
Since the world is engulfed in huge amounts of sunshine every day that goes unused except to heat things in general, we decided to do our part and absorb some of it. In addition to that sacrificial role on our part, salt water and warm sands are known to be very thereupeutic. Thus the dual value of the trip: do our part and medicinal reasons. And lo and behold! We both have a nice warm glow (and no wine yet) and the back feels much better than this time yesterday. Will definitely have to schedule more of these expeditions - for the good of mankind, of course!
| C • therapeutic activities 2 | ||
| Stretching 15:00 [1] | ||
| Actual stretching this time - rocking on the lower back. Focus is the lower back where the latest crunch was. Seems much better now so will keep doing these and add more back and hip stuff as I go along. | ||
Wednesday Jul 25 | ||
| Cycling (Road) 1:00:00 [2] | ||
| weight:145lbs | ||
| W Simsbury loop w Firetown hills - 72, clear, lovely day. Summer in full force in CT and it's great. Humidity returns over the next couple days and will start to get uncomfortable. So enjoy while it lasts.
This was a good ride until.... Felt really good, had a good spin going from the start and was able to power up the hills, haven't been able to do that for a while. Then the "until" part - on the last hill, the short, sharp Beaver hill almost home, did one last spin up and then "dance" on the pedals for the final bit. Really working, pulling on the handle bars. Felt good. Almost home. TWINGE!!!!! Felt a dull pull in the lower back and knew it wasn't right. Backed off immediately and tried to change back position to make it the rest of the way home. Not too bad, but still a dull pain. Time to nurse that.
| Stretching 30:00 [1] | ||
| 20' - Back and hip stretches after the ride to try to work the back out a bit while watching the last climb of the tour. Nice job Rasmusson. So what's he on?
Watch rest of tour and bit of news about the horrible home invasion too close to home. Showered and while bending over to dry my L lower leg, back spasm like never before. Sudden vice clamped in same area as the bike twinge. So the problem is real.;-{ 10' - more stretching to try to loosen up the area. Vit I to relax the muscles. It hurts just to sit here. Hmmm. Definitely not a good sign.
| C • back spasms 3 | ||
| C • home invasion 4 | ||
| Note | ||
| Have set my watch to go off every 30' so as to get up from this AP screen and walk around and stretch. Just sitting is not good. | ||
Tuesday Jul 24 | ||
| Strength (nycb 2) 1:06:00 [1] | ||
| weight:146lbs | ||
| Normal routine, but trying to get extra extension in the stretches and routines.
Then did about 10' of stretches from Sarah Key's book: "The Body in Action". This extends her techniques to other parts of the body beside the back as in "The Back Sufferer' Bible", recommended by the Balter - thanks. The book is interesting and delves fairly deeply into the physiology of the various joints. I'm working on the hip to start with and will branch to others as I get going.
Monday Jul 23 | ||
| Trail run 35:00 | ||
| ahr:163 weight:145lbs shoes: DS Trainer X | ||
| Beaver Trail - 65, grey, humid, out early before the rain and MwM.
Got into a good stride, probably about the best since leg pinched, with little foot drop. Tried to stride out and got a good rate going on the trail after the stretching and all the way home. Felt almost good for a change. Unfortunately the L ham string complained in the afternoon after the drive to Manch and back and from sitting around. So not there yet. More easy stuff for a while.
| Note | ||
| In the meantime, we have started to look at going to the Scottish 6 Day. The Europe stuff was fun and we'd like another go of it while we're still young;-} | ||
