| AOWN - Sitting on the front porch for lunch, heard a funny screeching behind us, from the direction of the shutters and very similar noise to a few years ago when bats were discovered under the shutters. Thought we saw a little blob under there but not sure didn't want to disturb it. Guess we might have been talking too loudly for its afternoon nap. | ||

| Cycling (Road) 1:00:00 [2] 12.0 mi (4:59 / mi) | ||
| weight:143lbs | ||
| W Sims loop incl Firetown hills - 90, very hazy, very humid. YUCK! Reminds why we went to Scotland.
Steady spin around loop. Hills rather hard under these conditions. Hard to breathe there's so much water in the air. Need gills. No evaporation and sweat poring off at end. Needed sweat band which is unusual for a bike ride around here. Large deer dashed across the road just ahead, on Hedgehog.

| Trail run 1:02:00 | ||
| weight:143lbs shoes: DS Trainer XII | ||
| Spring Pond loop, same as Wed - 80, hazy sun, humid. Dripping at the end - lost 2#.
Ok run but struggled to get any push going, effort just wasn't there. Possibly from taking back on the bad habit of staying up late reading as before the last trip. So tired during the run. Tried to do several stride outs, like Wed, but the energy wasn't there until the last one. Interestingly the HR, counted at the end, was higher during the slower, struggle ones than the last, smoother. Or maybe I missed count because of a few skipped beats, kind of syncopated. Later went out and continued the resupply efforts. Hate shopping but EMS had some good stuff that we "needed" at deep discount.
| Stretching 15:00 [0] | ||
| Working on the hamstrings, lower back, hips. Very tight hams. | ||
| Note | ||
| AOWN (non-rodent type maybe) - Sitting at dusk on the back porch, we observed the usually display of acrobatics by our local bats, except there are far more of them this year. In the past, we would have 3, maybe 4 at most in the small clearing above our backyard. Tonight there were as many as 6 circling around at different flight levels. Very dispersed. Seemed that some must have been assigned low level duty, others mid, and one or two very high. Fun watching them dodge and turn and flutter on. Wonder if they like moles, voles or whatever? | ||

| Hiking 1:00:00 [1] | ||
| weight:143lbs shoes: Salomon XA Pro | ||
| Mowing the grass - got really long, so broke down and went to work. Interestingly soft walking, like very hollow. Think the little gray creatures are mining our yard. There are tunnels everywhere. Not so bad on the lawn part or the woods, but the are popping up in the middle of the patio and between the slabs of the front walkway. But even worse, they have attacked the parsley - so far 5 of the 6 nice full plants have flopped with no roots but a big hollow tunnel in their place. All is not a total loss however. On the back bank in the midst of the mowing attack on the grass creatures, there lay one of the gray devils, curled up in quiet, innocent repose. I knew differently, and was quite satisfied that the creature had met its just reward. Now for the rest of its fellows. | ||

| Trail run 55:00 | ||
| weight:144lbs shoes: DS Trainer XII | ||
| Spring Pond loop - 57, gray. Started out slowly with cranky joints complaining. Gradually they decided that this was inevitable and started to cooperate. Except for the L hip/butt which took a long time, half way or so, before submitting.
Got into a good flow on the esker tr and able to stride out pretty well. Got a nice long 'run' in along here, sections of the purple tr, the bit after Spring Pond and then the road home. Really fun going stride for stride with Lyn, makes for an enjoyable outing.
| Stretching 10:00 [0] | ||
| Focus on hips, back. Had a massage/PT session after Day 5 at the Scottish. He tried to loosen, relax my L hamstring and told me to work on it. They are both very tight, according to him. He gave me a couple to work on, like touch toes with foot on a stool, then a chair and work up to it on a table. Could do that at one time but have been letting the stretching lapse in recent times. | ||

| Coups Sawmill - 60, rain. Keeping in the Scottish mode.
After a visit to the dentist for cleanings (both of us), we left with the bad news of more visits worth another trip to Europe or so. That's after we both got lots of compliments on what good condition our teeth are in. To recover, we headed up to Coups for the planned run on the map, rain or not. Laid out a course for each of us: Lyn wanted more contouring, and I wanted to check out more of the trails. I did ok except wore trail shoes instead of O-shoes in sympathy for Lyn's lost shoes. Slippery in the wet. She had trouble with running shoes slipping and rolling on the slightest bump. Also she had to use full glasses, instead of the lost reading half glasses, which fogged and distorted from the rain. Enjoyable but frustrating for the lost bag. Started the claim process...
| Note | ||
| While running, someone stopped and left a note on the car - "Access by permit only - Manchester Water Dept"
Guess we'll have to make contact.

| Orienteering long 1 [1] * | ||
| weight:143lbs | ||
| This has to count!
1. After MwM, we orienteered our way through the insidious I's (as in 84, 91, 15, 287, Garden State, 78) to Newark A/p to attempt extraction of one poor lonely suitcase lost in the bowels of some obscure warehouse. This was the last desparate effort before succombing to filling out insurance claim forms and therefore admitting that the airlines have screwed us. Alas! to no avail. Searched Continental shelves or at least what can be seen from outside their sanctums, and queried the International agents and the baggage agents, all of whom could give a s***, basically - go fly a kite. "Your bag is gone to the warehouse somewhere (unspecified)." 2. The second O part is that we were looking for O clothes! Very smelly ones by now! More points. Must be good. 3. Perhaps this is the closest, I'll admit that. We stopped at Cranberry Park on the way home to check out the facilities again. Fine, very fine venue. Nice pavillion with lots of power points, toilet building, nice open lawns for great spectating, impressive old manor house to overwhelm the competitors who will only be able to crawl around the courses for all the magnificence! Overall - 9 hours mostly in the car with a barely justififiable result. Next to claim forms and ordering replacements. Ugh.
