Trail run long 2:37:00 [1] ** 7.17 mi (21:53 / mi) +200m 12:31 / km
weight:143lbs shoes: Attack II
Nepaug SF - 55, clear, getting brisk, very dry.
Used a copy of Bikerag map at 1:18100 N-S/1:22875 E-W. Strange but that's the best trail map I had. And took a while to remember the top is true N. After downloading the route I realize that the map probably was not that useful as the trails block the terrain and are off enough to be quite confusing. Good for a general location but not much more.

Lots of new bike activity since our last visit with some very ambitious jumps, ramps, balance beams, new trails. We were sloppy at one point, missing a turn, and doing a long maze run passed all sorts of these ramps. Interesting but we were getting tired and wanted to get out of there, but the trail kept winding back on itself. Nepaug has some nice sections of woods, but also big areas of mt laurel and hemlock to fight through and block visibility. So staying on a trail generally is preferred.

Nice run overall, perfect weather.

Later checking AP discovered that Peter Grollmann had been riding in Nepaug for a couple hours today. We never saw anyone until back to the parking area. Three women were heading out for a hike and then a young guy arrived and suited up his armor to ride his mt bike with deep suspension, the works. Power to him to do that stuff alone. Bit different from my days riding there before suspension systems.

Normal routine. Felt good and did some of the routines quite well while my mind was off in another universe. Can't even remember now, but was almost important and put some important issues to rest. Nothing as important as the better source of additional calory loading, but did mull over the fact that the Bushy Hill Orchard doesn't have there creamery open this year. Never did buy anything creamy from them but the apples were always great and they seem to have a full supply available now. Maybe we need to do a sampling run this afternoon. I fancy a Macoun or nice fresh peach.
Note
I hate working on plumbing, esp 30 year old stuff. No matter how simple the task might seem, it will always escalate and require at least one trip to a hardware store. Fortunately, that problem has eased since our days in England where those stores closed at noon on Saturday - for the weekend. Real customer friendly!

Today's task involved the concern from Lyn that little hot water was flowing into the washing machine. Though she seldom uses pure hot, it does impact warm if little hot is mixed with freely flowing cold. How difficult can it be?

To start the hose takes extra encouragement to come off the hot tap, and when it loosens just a bit, water spews out of the fitting. Tighten it back up and try the other end. That comes off and the end goes into a bucket - drip, drip, drip, but very fast. So whats the problems? Putting a finger in the hole answers that - fine sand!!! practically blocked the port. Fortunately there was a fine mesh screen to stop some of it, but that had a hole and was corroded and came loose/out.

Attack the other end - but drip, drip, drip. So turn off the water supply to this pipe. None. Turn off the house supply, and no drip. Pull the other end off and that also is pretty clogged. It also had a mesh screen. Cleaned it all of stray sand. Tried to get at the washer to replace the drip, drip enabler. Housing wouldn't budge. Maybe without the sand, it would be ok.

Off to the hardware store for two new hoses and see if they had a little screen to fit in the washing machine. Got the hoses but no little screen. Got the screen/washers for the hose fittings. Replaced both because both were getting corroded and they were off. Put the hoses on and all seems to work.

That's the good news. The bad news is there was no sand in the cold side. So where is it coming from? Maybe it's termite revenge.

And another streak is now under way. Guess this is an easy week.
Note
In the count count, I'm, or rather you are at 9950 in the seemingly mad dash for 10K. As you are mostly anonymous, can't really suggest an award system. So guess we'll just drink it instead.;-}

Pruning, hauling and chipping again. Attacked another rhodie grove, trying to get in back into the manageable boundaries. Finished up all the current piles of chippable stuff. Pretty healthy pile for next year's mulching. Finally restacked a pile from last year, broken down very nicely for mulch.

And started a new streak, or the break of the old streak was only one day. Does that count? May have to try to run tomorrow, easily though. Woke up this am very tired, but more worrying was a tender inside of the L ankle. Don't remember any recent twists to it.

Thursday Sep 13

Trail run tempo (fartlek) 1:15:00
weight:143lbs shoes: DS Trainer XII
Horse Tr, reverse (CW) - 60, clear, dry, brilliant day.
Ah, so the streak ends. Headed out stiffish and had trouble getting the stride at all without the foot drop being annoying again. Gradually got it together and 20' in felt ok. Easy jog, stretch, then hit the Horse tr. Put in a couple fartlek surges: one from the bridge to the first junction and then from that junction to the next. The second was about a K, and was hard to keep going. That was it and cruised the rest of the way except for a brief surge on the Horse tr to the Canton Rd entrance. Good run but shows that a lot of work needs to be done.

The running went well, but the hip didn't really like it afterwards and has been complaining all afternoon. May have to send it down to get a lecture from Kissy - she seems to be able to get these body parts to cooperate.

Stretching 10:00 [0]
Working the ham and hip. Hip sore afterwards.
Strength 1:00:00 [1]

Chipping all the rhodie stuff for all afternoon. Made it thru a tank of gas and most of the pile. These branches are really twisty and need a lot of futzing around to get into the thing. Hot tub - Lyn got it going but leaking pretty strenuously so not sure how long it will last.
Note
Finished the day with a nice grilled pizza - pepperoni, fresh tomatoes, fresh basil, cheese. Sweet!

Wednesday Sep 12

Bird walk to Great Pond. Lots of neat birds starting with a merlin and quite a few green herons. Standing around is hard on the back. And my binocs are really light, so can't even call this weights.
Note
Afternoon, attacked the rhodies again. Thinning out the bunches up back. The birds aren't going to like it as they really like these for shelter. Have found 2 old nests in there. May be too thin next year.
Note
Check out the streak - 3 days without running! This could be a most enjoyable trend.

Stretching 10:00 [0]

Hips, back, Hamstring. Could touch forehead to knees doing ham stretch - progress. Will apply heat after coffee.

Monday Sep 10

Note

Aw! Weight's back up. Nothing like a good UNO Camping weekend! Have to get back on the junk food diet. But the garden veggies are just too good to pass up for the short season.

MwM.

Afternoon spent trying to make sense of notes for the Sprint Finals/Relay. Raw structure done but need more.
