| Orienteering warm up/down 15:00 [1] | ||
| shoes: VJ Integrator | ||
| Boulder Dash - jogging around with Lyn to loosen up. Stopped by the tenters to say hello and then up to Sat bus stop for some stretching. Jogged by the water stop at finish and on to the start. Takes a while for things to decide to get going. | ||
| Orienteering race 1:20:35 [4]*** 5.07 km (15:54 / km) +110m 14:20 / km | ||

| Boulder Dash Green X 2 - 65, clear w passing clouds.
Pretty good steady run getting same time as Sat, so consistency paid as went from 2nd M60 by ~1' to Hans to 1st overall, though not 1st on the day. 6 or 7 for the weekend on Gr X I think, not sure as was down so far, it didn't really matter. Tried to go carefully again and maintain contact. Didn't a couple times and paid: on 2 a little by getting on the level below the control (denoted by only a form line?); nailed 3 after having 10' of trouble here Sat; 5 - went in too soon and too R so too high, realized it and dropped to bag; 6 another nice one - nailed; but 7 - disaster struck when tried to outrun Phil up to the control. Fought way thru saplings into an open area and followed that to a road(?). Took a while to figure location and then head in on good attackpoint only to hit another road!. Went up to a junction and tried to line up roads with map and compass for a long time before it made sense. Went in again, straight to control. This was really a bad leg as there was plenty of solid things to work off that were ignored! For shame. 9 - slightly off to another bag on a rock, then over; 10 road around and across thru the nice woods to check out clump of rootstocks in the clearing before heading down to the one in the water a contour above the waterline; 13 - green was misleading and took a bit; 14 - slightly R but got it behind Jeff. In other words - the normal set of bobbles aggravated by a very technical area, with a map that showed all the warts and needed adjusting to. Nice weekend, nice courses, nice map. Well done UNO and all.
Green X Day 2 - Splits | ||
Saturday Sep 29 | ||
| Event: Boulder Dash 2007 | ||
| Orienteering race 1:20:09 [3]*** 4.78 km (16:46 / km) +75m 15:33 / km | ||
| spiked:12/13c shoes: VJ Integrator | ||
| UNO Boulder Dash - 70, clear, windy.
Good careful run but got distracted in the final bit to 6 causing a parallel error worth 10' of wandering around a lower terrace than the bag. Woods quite thick, but map generally good.

| Boulder Dash - Jog around to loosen up. Over to the bus stop and then around the field at the start area. | ||
Green X Day 1 - Splits | ||
Friday Sep 28 | ||
| Trail run 38:00 [1] | ||
| weight:145lbs shoes: DS Trainer XII | ||
| Beaver Tr - 70, cloudy but clearing, wet after rain so slippery roots.
Slow jog out, then series of strides coming back that almost felt ok. Hip sore going out. AOWN: While we were getting ready, Lyn yelled to look out back. There was a creature in the middle of the yard with a black and white striped tail. At first thought it might be a racoon, but out in the middle of the day? Then focussed better and realized it was a hawk working on something with one foot and its beak while keeping a close vigil for any danger. Ran off to find the camera but it was gone by then. From the bird book, possibly was a red shouldered hawk.
Thursday Sep 27 | ||
| Cycling (Road) 50:00 [1] | ||
| weight:144lbs | ||
| W. Simsbury loop w/o Firetown - 80, hazy, humid, seemed like a headwind going out - a hot one. A good day for an easy ride. | ||
Wednesday Sep 26 | ||
| Trail run warm up/down 15:00 [1] | ||
| weight:146lbs shoes: VJ Falcon | ||
| Osbornedale - jogging from lower parking lot (gate was locked) to pavilion before, stretching, and then jogging back down after. Walked back up after changing shoes to flip-flops to meet up with Lyn, but that doesn't count. | ||
| Orienteering 57:15 [4]*** 4.59 km (12:28 / km) +250m 9:48 / km | ||
| spiked:15/17c shoes: VJ Falcon | ||
| Osbornedale 4 point Leg 1 Green - 85-90, hazy, humid, hot! Nice it wasn't like this Sunday.
We decided to give the courses a try; they had seemed fun. So we did. Of course managed to choose the hottest day of the week and record temp, but it was still fun. Great course. Really enjoyed the variation from the woods running to out in the fields. Certainly missed the controls, made for some searching, and twice on controls that I had been to - 2 - hung it, 8 - met Peter there while he hung it and I was heading in. Think I got both right on, but not really sure. Posted some comments on the Split List. After we went down to Indian Wells SP for a dip in the river to cool off, have a picnic and a nice cup of tea;-} For energy refilling we stopped at Tulmeadow Farm for yummy ice cream cones on the way home. Ummmm!
Tuesday Sep 25 | ||
| Trail run warm up/down 43:00 [1] | ||
| weight:146lbs shoes: Attack II | ||
| Mcleans - Horse tr to bridge & return - 70, clear, cool in woods. Slow jog trying to get joints, but they were very reluctant. L hip still suspicious of all activity. | ||
| Trail run intervals 30:58 [4] | ||
| shoes: Attack II | ||
| Mcleans Main woods rd from Bridge N and back - Ladder of 2-3-4-4-3-2 with about 2' rcy between each. These were hard and seemed to go forever. Tried to work on flow, stride length, and to forget about the fact that they are not really all that fun. Plus ignore L butt which complain about every footstep. It's seems to like things a bit better now, as I sit on the heating pad, but its got to go to work pretty soon. Can't just sit on it all day or Lyn will abuse me as a lay-about. | ||
| Stretching 10:00 [0] | ||
| Worked on hams, butt, back. | ||
Monday Sep 24 | ||
| Note | ||
| weight:146lbs (rest day) | ||
| A very weary, groggy day. Time for a bit of ease. And hmmm! A weekend of beer and pizza seems to have recovered the Scottish weight. Will have to see how permanent it is.
AOWN: Some time in the middle of the night we were seranaded by a chorus of coyotes. They really struck up their yelps, for about a minute or so, and then quiet. Had not heard any for a long time and we were speculating that they had gone off to better turf. They were there, and seemed like right outside the window.
