| Orienteering race 1:19:52 [4] *** 6.6 km (12:06 / km) | ||
| weight:142lbs shoes: VJ Falcon | ||
| NEOC - Diamond Hill Red M-60 - 60, grey, drizzly but dry woods.
Nice run. Had a couple bobbles but nothing serious, mostly in 2 cases where bags were hung in shallow reentrants buried in bushes. Map could use some work - green was largely grown out, lots of missing boulders, some new trails at E end ( atvs). Ran trails a fair amount which were nasty in places with baseball size/shape rocks to roll around on, tricky stuff. This is a quite narrow extended area with lots of trails and walls. The course was pretty good at forcing route choices of multiple trails around or straight thru questionable woods, mostly due to blueberry. Good fun. First on M-60 Red, but then is that really a class? Time was faster than the M60 Green so do I get the Club Championship, if I were a member? Another fun thing - Lyn and I started together; she on the Brown. I came out of the last control for the 600m run-in and hit the trails just as she came up the trail. So we ran it in together up the trail, past Michael C (oh my - he wouldn't join us for the run in). I was slightly in the lead along the trail just for footing reasons. Then out into open, around some green on the trail to the final open area with the Finish in sight. Afterburners go on and I'm left in the dust. Phoosh!!!! She finishes about 10-15m ahead;-} but they gave us the same time. Later while we were changing at the car, Terry Keegan, CS, walked all the way up when he saw that both times were exactly the same. Thought there was a mistake. Said I just followed Lyn all the way around, needed the help.
Saturday Oct 6 | ||
| Trail run 45:00 [1] | ||
| weight:143lbs shoes: DS Trainer XII | ||
| Beaver Tr - 80, sunny. Did some 10" hill pushes up a steep short reentrant out near the turn around, and a little pick up on the way back.
AOWN - Lyn came home with a mushroom on her run yesterday like one Betsy Hawes retrieved at the Boulder Dash, claiming it had all sorts of possible benefits but wasn't sure. We took a side trip to check out the supply and came home with a pretty good supply, and in close up. Betsy indicates they might be red reishi which grow on dead hemlocks, where we found these. Wonder if they cure bulb planting mania?

| Cycling (Road) 1:38:00 [2] 20.5 mi (4:46 / mi) | ||
| weight:143lbs | ||
| N Granby v Barn Door Hills to East St, Quarry, Hungary, Canal, Floydville, Buttles - 80, clear w some haze.
Nice ride. Tried to keep up a good steady pace, spin up the bits of hills on this route. Decided tho that legs/knees aren't ready for major hill work and can use more of this. Much nicer route than slashing thru town. Very few cars, only one traffic light. Coming thru Granby Station and Floydville noted that the bike trail construction is under way on this section around Culbros. A gravel base has been laid, watered and rolled. Rolling was going on along Rt 10. If they water it enough, will the tarmac grow and spread?

| Cycling (Road) 1:15:00 [1] | ||
| weight:143lbs | ||
| Easy ride down the bike path to the library to return some books and Runner's Worlds. Continued on the new path to cross river and come home on E side. 80, hazy, humid.
Decided this isn't the nicest route to the library. The old section of path has numerous cracks, raised bits and busy road crossings. The new section is nice but short. Guess we're spoiled by our rides in the countryside.

| Trail run warm up/down 46:00 [1] | ||
| weight:144lbs shoes: Attack II | ||
| Heading to/from Waterfall Tr - 64, grey, close, humid, should be drizzling and parts of trail was very damp. Warmup/down went across Beaver Tr down to WF Tr just beyond prickers. Includes stretching going out. | ||
| Trail run tempo 33:00 [3] | ||
| shoes: Attack II | ||
| Waterfall Tr from just beyond prickers to Firetown Rd.
Different interval approach this week with a long push at a faster pace on the trail: 12.38' going out/12.08 coming back with rest of about 4' to walk over to check if any water was flowing; very little. This was a long push and kind of a struggle but glad we did it. Seems to be less push in the legs these days. Not sure if a result of the sore butt, could feel it all the way. Didn't loosen. AOWN - The hawk settled into a tree in the backyard and checked out the territory for the longest time. Finally flew further back into the woods out of sight (and I could get into the shower).

| weight:146lbs (rest day) | ||
| Started as a lazy rest day thinking about Charlie getting up in the middle of the night to bounce around with the ladies. When we were thinking of that, it was all a past tense occurrence as we sipped our tea and read the paper, and drank coffee sitting in the morning sunlight.
Finally got motivated as Lyn decided to attack a small garden that has been having a diminishing display of day lily flowers in recent years plus lots of daffodil leafing. She dug up a few of the bunches of each - massively overgrown. What had started a one bulb has become a clump a foot in diam, jammed with bulbs. Same with the day lilies. Out came the various clumps. In went a small assortment. Mind you this was an after thought garden that had received thinnings from another garden way back when. So off she went after those, or at least a corner of one of those. We now are inundated with piles of day lilies and bushels of daff bulbs, and have barely scratched the front gardens. Anyone want some of either? Both came from White Flower Farm as part of their Works collections. Not sure of the proper name, but they have a collection of day lilies and daffodils. We got a couple of each back when we established the garden a century ago or so it would seem from the pile of veg uncovered today. Let me know. Will even ship possibly, but will want postage as they are heavy.

| MwM, then a visit to the dentist for a crown installation (why is it called A crown, when it costs a lot more than a few crowns?) while Lyn ran the Manchester course. Her run was not fun - they didn't stop the traffic for her and she had to stop for all the red lights;-}
Then spent the afternoon trying to figure out OR, an Irish SI system. Couldn't get it to download results properly. Will take more work.
