| US Ch Green Y #2 - 55, sunny. More of the same except didn't wait until the second control, boomed the first by going just below it. Was focused on it being down the hill and went about 10' below, in full view. Sloppy and not awake. Story of the day overall, although had some good legs too. Nailed 2 and 3, 6, and the long leg to 6 though strayed into the wrong reentrant to start. Fortunately it was run down the reentrant not up and it all converged.
Two days of well down in the standings. Not a good way to finish my Green career. Time to start planning the next campaign and sneak back to poach next year.
Day 2 Green Y - Splits | ||
Saturday Nov 3 | ||
| Trail run warm up/down 20:00 [1] | ||
| shoes: VJ Integrator | ||
| Jog/stretching to loosen up butt. | ||
| Orienteering race 1:18:47 [4] *** 5.2 km (15:09 / km) +200m 12:42 / km | ||
| spiked:7/12c shoes: VJ Integrator | ||
| US Classic Champs Green Y #1 - 55, sunny.
Not a very fun day. Sloppy O, periods of brain deadness, uncertain veg mapping led to problems. Troubles with 2,5,6,8,10. The ridge reentrant terrain is quite different from my experience and has troubled me in the past. This weekend added to the record.
Day 1 Green Y - Splits | ||
Friday Nov 2 | ||
| Event: US Champs | ||
| Trail run warm up/down 40:00 [1] | ||
| shoes: VJ Integrator | ||
| Warm ups running to/from the Sprint model, the classic model and then for the Sprint race. | ||
| Orienteering (Model) 25:00 [1] | ||
| shoes: VJ Integrator | ||
| Classic model - 60, sunny. Jogged/walked around the Intermediate course. Very concerned about the veg as seemed like major discrepancies between map and terrain. Still was able to find ways through without big trouble. | ||
| Orienteering (Model) 20:00 [1] | ||
| shoes: VJ Integrator | ||
| Sprint Model - Tried to figure out the map, esp the green. Beginning part very nasty but last few controls very nice. Can only hope. | ||
| Orienteering race (Sprint) 22:23 [4] *** 2.5 km (8:57 / km) +87m 7:38 / km | ||
| spiked:16/17c shoes: VJ Integrator | ||
| Sprint Champs @ Prince William Forest - The good run of the weekend. Enjoyed this and had a clean run except the leg to 9, tripped crossing the reentrant and broke compass. Took a bit to find bezel and when finally got to road decided to go over the hill instead of road around. Actually thought it was a saddle between 2 hills; shows the fuzzy thinking at the time, esp the not stopping long enough to really plan the route. Came out to the raod unsure of the location for possibly a minute loss.
4th M60 and 3rd US for bronze.

| Note | ||
| Arrgh!!! The invasion continues! First, creepy crawly incursions of bumps of moss were seen slithering over the pavement and sliding in amongst the beloved grass blades. Next, a true invasion - fuzzy, grey mouses rambling around the basement enjoying the warmth of N CT. And today - the HORROR of it all, befitting only a day such as Halloween - the latest breech from the N regions of W MA, upon returning home from the library seeking light, casual tomes to peruse for the weekend, what should leap from the book bag but that dreaded monster of a volume, useful for little more than doing weight training in the CIA gym, but "Einstein"! Oh the perversity of it all. The demons and dragons of the day will be upon us shortly. For sure they can only bring further ill tidings. Rumors of upcoming visitations of foxes must be the next of the woes on our way. | ||

| Hiking 20:00 [1] 1.3 mi (15:23 / mi) | ||
| weight:144lbs | ||
| A brisk walk around the block, 60, sunny, to warm up in our little hollow. Didn't want to run today in order to rest the hip and thigh. Initially planned a ride once it warmed up a bit, so headed to the library first. Of course once the delay has set in, it's difficult to resurrect the moment. So the plan changed. | ||
Tuesday Oct 30 | ||
| Trail run 1:00:00 [1] | ||
| weight:143lbs shoes: Attack II | ||
| Horse tr-Purple to Spring Pond turnoff - 45, sunny but cool. At the turnoff, Lyn continued for the full Purple loop. I was struggling to that point with sore butt and a new strain in the upper L front thigh from a fall into a rock field at the Du-O, one sharper rock nailed the top of that muscle. Hadn't bothered until this run and was a sharp pain. So headed towards Spring Pond but decided the trail was hard on both sorenesses and went into the woods to just run. Woods a bit thickish with pine saplings and deadfall to dodge around, but the ground was softer and pace a little slower. Gradually worked way down to the dam along the road a bit and then back into the woods to County Rd. Not the greatest of woods for openness but starting to grow out enough to be able to get some nice dodging and darting around. Kind of fun.
AOWN - Came upon a bone like a deer hip structure and a skull. Later saw a white tail disappear into the woods. At home, the W MA mice have now joined the threat of moss. A couple infiltrated the basement. A sticky trap to care of one. Then Lyn got on a cleaning campaign to get the other. Piles of 30 year old stuff got rummaged from various hiding places. Dump run coming up for all sorts of neat stuff.

| Finally had a killer frost last night, 28 or so. Zapped the few fragile things remaining, couple tomatos, basil and jalapenas. So picked a good bunch of peppers (made an excellent chili tonight with just two of the little things - yum) and composted everything. That leaves just the brocs, and pruned them. Looking pretty miserable as the leaf caterpillars did a number on lots of leaves. Turned over those rows and spread the last of the rye seed. Gone to be for the winter. Then actually split a few logs before heading off to suck another patch of leaves. Was quite damp and chilly in our little hollow. Winter is on its way for sure. | ||
