Event: WCOC Wooster Mtn Meet

Trail run warm up/down 5:00 [1]
weight:145lbs shoes: VJ Falcon
Loosening up a bit.
Orienteering race 1:29:44 [3]*** 6.33 km (14:11 / km) +170m 12:30 / km
spiked:14/17c shoes: VJ Falcon
Wooster Mt (Hemlock Hills) - Red - 40. sunny. Nice running but cool and bit of a breeze standing around before.

A fairly plodding effort, bursts of good legs and nice running in the open woods (such a relief from VA) intermingled with head-scratching in a couple of the detail sections. Really fun area with a lot more available as the mapping gets going. This rather nicely packed a challenging course in a 1K area. A bit of climb to get going but ok after that. The hills and runs showed my lack of fitness this year.

Accidentally nailed 3 and then circled it the second time around. Rest ok.

FR Dist 8.5K w 180m climb.
Orienteering long (Control pickup) 1:13:00 [1]
shoes: VJ Falcon
Picking up a small section of controls, incl redeeming myself on 5 to 6 with much better route choice this time, going up rocky reentrant. Had looked at that first time but thought would avoid some climb by going further along - so I could go by the end of it and not see it.

Red - Splits

Saturday Nov 17

Cycling (Road) 1:03:00 [1]13.5 mi (4:40 / mi)
weight:144lbs
W Simsbury loop w Firetown hills - 35, part sun, light breeze seemingly always coming at us. Easy spin with high spin to get warm. Little cool on arms, otherwise ok.

AOWN: Saw 2 turkeys hunkered in the Mcleans woods along Firetown.

Friday Nov 16

Trail run 1:07:00 [1]4.85 mi (13:48 / mi)
weight:145lbs shoes: Attack II
Beaver Tr - South Tr - Esker - Munnis Woods - 40, sunny, very windy.

Decided to test out leg, and besides - didn't feel like fighting the wind on the bike. Probably a bad decision as leg seems unchanged and like running on a stump. Besides had no push and plodded. Started with 5' of fast walking to see if that would help warmup. Didn't. Then stretched. Didn't. Then thought would get better as got going. Didn't, until almost home. Arghhhh!

Otherwise a nice run though nervous that a tree would decide to land on me with the wind hiking away. Slight interuption at the stream crossing on South tr as the logs that used be there for crossing are gone. So wandered down stream a ways till a likely log was available. Wasn't ready to splash across with more than half the run to go.

Thursday Nov 15

Strength (nycb 1) 1:00:00 [1]
weight:146lbs
Normal routine, didn't seem as hard as last week but still physical.

Ham a bit tender this morning.

Wednesday Nov 14

Cycling (Road) 1:17:00 [2]18.0 mi (4:15 / mi) +200m 2:34 / km
weight:146lbs
Granby Loop - 42, sunny but got much warmer during ride.

Firetown-Simsbury Rd-Rt 20-Day Rd- 189-East-Wells-189-202-Home

Nice ride. Intended to get more hills in and this did - even the flat bit home turned out to be into a stiff wind. Good ride.

Ham seems to be making the most of the rest/non-running as it's feeling pretty good. Was tempted to try running today but decided to give another day or two. May have to get a run in before T'day but then maybe not...

Tuesday Nov 13

Strength (nycb 2) 55:00 [1]
weight:146lbs
Normal stuff.
Cycling (wind trainer) 15:00 [1]
Quick spin at varying 1 min cycles.
Strength (wall weights) 3:00 [1]
Finished off with double pole stuff. A little single but had enough by then.

Monday Nov 12

Note
weight:145lbs
Downloaded my gps route onto the Sessions map for some interesting anomolies, distortions and stretches. The map in general works but some of the detail is off. Noted some in the area of Red 7 during control pick up yesterday. Not enough to remap though.
