Sunday Nov 25

Event: Mt Tom

Orienteering race 1:36:27 [2]*** 6.2 km (15:33 / km) +310m 12:27 / km
spiked:12/14c weight:147lbs shoes: VJ Integrator
Mt Tom Red - 45, sunny, very nice running - er, well more of a half-hearted jog with mainly fast walk on the many, many climbs. What's with the 5% climb?

Actually a real nice course by Phil through great open woods. Was surprised to be able to run a bit and the ham felt ok, just took it easy on the climbs. Started to feel it around 9 and contemplated heading in, but realized it was mostly down from there and whoever bailed because of a sore part - HTFU! Still running in the woods was much preferred and the final bit on the trail wasn't appreciated.

Boomed 13 by focussing on 14 when leaving 12 and not seeing 13! Stopped when figured the reentrants didn't make sense and should have hit the trail by then (of course the wonky scale probably thru me off - hah, that's a laffer. Who notices scale anyways.) Realized that 13 was still to be punched and thought that I had run way past it, I headed back. Ugh! Finally relocated just before 12 and off. Had actually turned back just one reentrant before 13. 6' loss.

Otherwise a nice fun run. Thanks Phil.

So that's pretty much it for 2007. Now for R&R, getting parts back into health mode. Will figure a year's synopsis in the coming sometime.

Red - Splits

Saturday Nov 24

Note
weight:148lbs (rest day)
Laying off the ham. Remains quite sore. Also need to lay off other kinds of "ham" and other edibles as the wt is growing as fast as the G.

Friday Nov 23

Note
weight:147lbs (injured) (rest day)
Generally tired from the run and mega eating. Ham muscle definitely did not like the running and was sore during the night, and continues to ache. To the extent that an Injured call might best be made. Today the quads joined the soreness grouping, acting up as a result of the road and down hill running. Not that bad tho and will recover quickly.

Spent the day cleaning gutters and then sucking the latest round of leaf droppings. Should be close to the end. Hope so as this went quite late, necessitating head lamp. Even worse, the cold brittlized the plastic sucker which managed to break a key joint between suck tube and compressor. Probably not recoverable.

Thursday Nov 22

Road run race 38:16 [4]4.75 mi (8:02 / mi) vdot: 39.2
weight:146lbs shoes: DS Trainer XII
Manchester Road Race - 60, sunny. Too hot!

Difficult run today as leg was feeling tender and lack of training was very evident. No push at all. When the gun went off, I watched everyone take off and go like I was standing still tho I was running flat out. Ugh! Lyn disappear into the crowd immediately and finished with a respectable 34.59, winning her age group by a respectable margin once again.

Splits: 7.49, 8.56, 7.49, 7.59, 5.57 This was my slowest ever, and the age group is getting much tougher. I got 21st this year. My 5th place time last year was only good enough for 9th this year.

Was good to see Peter have a very nice run, and he seemed to enjoy the carnival atmosphere.

So after comparing notes with the rest of the Walker clan and visiting the old HS keg tail-gate party, we headed to Mom's for a very nice turkey feast catered by the champ lady herself with nice pies from the VT contingent. Yum!

Wednesday Nov 21

Road run 32:32 3.0 mi (10:50 / mi)
weight:146lbs shoes: DS Trainer XII
Beaver Triangle - 35, grey, misty.
A get ready for tomorrow run: warm-up, stretch, try some surges to get the legs to remember that road races just are not fun and won't it be fun to get back in the woods.

Well this turned out much better than expected but may have set everything back for tomorrow. We'll have to see.

Before setting out did some leg swings: swing leg fore-and-aft, and side-to-side to loosen up the hip. Seemed to work as leg responded well when we hit the road. Usually it feels like running on a stump. This started right off feeling almost (emphasis) normal. After stretching, we did several short strides. Then Lyn pushed the hill going S on Barn Door Hills. Tried to follow but had no push in the legs. They were still moving well; just missing lots of training miles. On return stretch down Holcomb, did more short strides of 50-100m with similar rcy. Able to go but there just is no speed.

Anyway that was all fine. Now the butt aches so will have to see how it goes tomorrow. Goal is to break 40; days of under 35 are gone if this keeps up.
Stretching 12:00 [1]
Various back, leg, hip stretches.

Tuesday Nov 20

Strength (nycb 2) 55:00 [1]
weight:146lbs
Normal stuff. Cold, didn't really get warmed up. Colder still watching the snow come down - total about 1" heavy stuff. Winter's threatening though should be 50's for T'day.
Strength (shovelling) 10:00 [3]
Late - decided to clear off the slushy stuff. Interesting challenge these days with the various rolls and discontinuities in the driveway. Guess can't put it off for too many more years. But it looks quaint.
