| 5 Ponds - 30ish, grey, after standing around all day fending off BS and ROTC - urgh! Picked up the SE controls: went by 11, then picked up 12 thru 18 (11 was also 16). Did this in order while in April rains did it in reverse order. Nailed all the controls but 13 - got pushed to the R a fair amount by the diaganol spur/reentrants. Finally relocated on the water features, interestingly the marshes were quite full (and frozen) though most streams are bone dry. Green in the area is a lot thinner than mapped. Guess it should be looked at. It hadn't been as we don't go down that way often though it is really neat stuff.
Nice course by Peter Gr. Thanks. This was one of the few times recently that the other courses out numbered the Reds, by a significant margin. Wish they had let us know as we had 50 extras in the beginner courses without enough maps. AOWN: Flushed a huge bird (owl?) leaving 15. It was about 20' from me when it took off away into the woods - without a sound, really eerie. Last week when we did the perm course, we saw one a two different parts of the course. Figured it was also doing the course. Maybe this one was doing red as well.

| Normal stuff. Nice day - hope it stays for tomorrow. If we get A competitor, that will be one more than April! | ||

| Day off but hardly restful. Getting old, really old, as people used to do and that generation still does, must be really depressing - if you are aware of it. Perhaps you're not. If I should get like that, set me out on an O course, longer the better, with no time limit and don't come looking for me. Or put me on my windsurfer with an off-shore wind and an outgoing tide. | ||

| Beaver Trail - 24, clear, sunny, some wind on the road to/from.
Easy test run to check out the butt. It's not quite ready but the run felt great. Started slowly with little mincey steps which seemed to work. Gradually able to stride out a bit on way out. On way back got a good stride going which felt almost normal. Will have to see how it holds up. Fun in the woods - crunchy snow under foot and good traction. No really slippery spots though this route is fairly flat. Lyn hit a steep section on the Purple Trail yesterday, one that always gives us trouble in slippery conditions, lost her footing and landed on her butt and elbows. Guess the Mb bike was a better choice. The woods are really pretty with the ice layer on the branches and the sun shining/sparkling through.

| Cycling (mtb) 1:00:00 [1] 6.7 km (8:57 / km) +50m 8:38 / km | ||

| Tobacco Field and woods - 28, greyish sun, crunchy icy conditions. Trails mostly ok with crunchy, rough ice layer not thick enough to prevent good traction. Lots of rutty trails filled with loose oak leaves, frozen by the rain/sleet to give firm resistance, esp climbing. Exposed roads in the fields were quite slick in parts requiring careful maneuvering, nothing quick as turns or braking. Tires slid out a couple times but shoes come free instantly.
Nice to be riding, but a long way from the balance and timing to do serious riding.

| Enough rest. Time to do something. So back to rolling around on the family room floor watching the clouds roar over and the ice chunks fall off the trees. Enough ice to make things white and slippery but not cover very much. Still prettier than the barren brown fairways of the south. | ||
