Sunday Dec 23

Hiking 15:00 [1] 1.2 mi (12:29 / mi)
weight:148lbs shoes: Salomon XA 2
Around the block in light mist/drizzle at 35. Wanted to get out before the great rain storm with all the flooding, thunder and lightning hit - still waiting. Aim was to get some motion going in the legs again. Will have to see how the week goes. May try a test run this week? Then again, life as a sloth is not too bad.

AOWN: When we opened up the insulating panels overlooking the patio with its birdfeeders this morning, noticed the sunflower feeder on the ground and disassembled. Lyn thought it was the squirrel that had been leaping at it Sat. After the walk we searched around looking for one part that remains missing to discover a bear print, which led to a trail of prints over to the neighbors garbage and partly eaten refuse like cookies and a bag of brown sugar. No part but absolved the squirrel. Thought all the bears were sleeping at Charlie's!
Strength (HHT) 30:00 [1]
Approximately the same set. Took longer than before because of: lost count during the drills and did too many, lost count and did them slower, or just distracted listening to "Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me". Probably a bit of all as I am proven professionally challenged counter, or miscounter. Anyway will keep doing these next week and may up the count/reps to see if it helps.

Saturday Dec 22

Hiking 5:00 [0]
weight:148lbs
Snowstorm 10K - 30, gray. Hiked around to watch the start, mid-way (4mi) and finish to cheer Lyn on to another record. The conditions were mixed with a lot of the roads very icy and slippery, making for a slow time for her of 50.14. Still it was a new record by 15' so she can't be too unhappy with another $50 prize - Do I detect another pair of New Shoes in the near future?;-}

The injured Phil had a good run with a nice surge to the finish.

I'm getting antsy to get back to running but not with the roads as crappy as they are. If we had to run roads all the time in these kinds of conditions, Ice Bugs would be the next purchase.

Note
Reading: "Brilliant" story of the invention of the bright blue LED with nice background on the overall LED technology. Interesting that while the US is just getting around to CFLs reluctantly, the rest of the world is charging on to LEDs for general lighting, much lower power consumption, no heat, no toxic (as In Hg) waste.

Friday Dec 21

Thursday Dec 20

Strength (shovelling) 15:00 [1]
Another round at the end of the drive. They came around this morning to push the edges closer to the curbs with the warmer temps this morning softening things. Wound up with some big chunks in the drive but they broke up and could also free the ice chunk there as well. Then scraped the dusting we got last night off and the ice layer under came up as well.

Then went off to reclaim the Honda which seems to have reached its rust limit, it would seem terminally. The top of the gas spout has rusted through and now flops about. The sheet metal that is supposed to support it is long gone. So without major body work to create a supporting structure, attached to what - more rust? Just don't make cars like they used to. This lasted 20 years and except for the spout was in very runnable condition. My first car was a '55 Chevy, purchased in '65 and in much worse condition than this! How can we buy new/different things if these last so long?!

Wednesday Dec 19

Hiking 50:00 [1]
weight:148lbs
Mcleans, from Picnic Grd to Summit - 24, gray. Went over to check out the snow. Figured it would be to frozen and crusty to either ski or snowshoe, and it was. Plus trail were chopped up with footsteps, snowshoe tracks and an odd ski track or two and lots of leaves twigs on the track.

So the nice snow from Thu got crusted with a combination of sleet, drizzle and warmth followed by deep cold freeze. Let's out off trail adventures. The trails have been skied, snowshoed, and bare booted plus the sleet/drizzle/ thaw/freeze but not totally hard across the trail so punching through still happens. A hard walk actually and L ham felt it a bit. Still nice to be out.
