| Skiing (xc) 50:00 [1] | ||
| weight:148lbs shoes: Fischer Hobacks | ||
| Mcleans Fields - 35, clear sunny skies with some breeze. Good snow cover but trails looked like a herd of snowshoers had tromped through setting up a hard packed 15" track that was very skitterish to ski on. Headed out to the fields for a loop around. The snow was firm and nice in the sun. Seems to have set up and consolidated well allowing us to sink in just enough for a nice track. The shady parts were still soft under the top layer and the skis sank in too much making harder going. Overall nice. We caught it just at about the right time as by the time we got back to near the car, the snow that had been nice and dry had warmed up enough to start getting wet and sticky. Probably the last ski for a while as rain and 50s is forecast for Tues.
Tired and not much energy though so cut the ski short. Either too much at the gym or played basketball too hard yesterday watching both Uconn teams pull out wins - the girls by a whisker.

| Strength (shovelling) 30:00 [1] | ||
| weight:148lbs shoes: Salomon XA 2 | ||
| 7" of loose snow which got heavy as the day warmed up. Blew drive in the morning but then had to clear the heavy stuff after they cleared the road. Worked on shoveling to the right vs normal to L., tough change but L wrist is sore and need to give it a break. | ||
| Erg warm up/down 5:00 [1] | ||
| shoes: DS Trainer X | ||
| Try to get warmed up and going. Couldn't stand more than 5'. Boring plus butt sore on seat. | ||
| Pliometrics 10:00 [2] | ||
| shoes: DS Trainer X | ||
| 5' before on semi-ball doing foot hops after bounces. Another 5' after weights on step - 3 sets of 20x bounces and then 3 sets of 10x step hops. Tough. | ||
| Strength (Nautilus) 1:00:00 [1] | ||
| shoes: DS Trainer X | ||
| Back up to full weights plus upped squat one notch. Felt good. Probably from time off.
Busy time - late Sat afternoon.
| Water 10:00 [1] | ||
| Finished off with some laps of breast/free and jogging. That was it and into the hot tub/sauna. | ||
Friday Feb 29 | ||
| Trail run long 1:20:00 [1] | ||
| weight:151lbs shoes: Salomon XA 2 | ||
| Horse tr - Purple loop - 15, sunny, clear. Trails covered with crunchy snow and some icy parts. Good footing all around. Trails well packed. Foot or so of snow remains in the woods - 4-5" loose with a crust over a crust of some depth. Not really skiable unfortunately. Poor shoes - went from running in the desert and trying to avoid cacti to running in the snow and not slipping on the ice. Worked well for both conditions.
Great run - really pretty snow covered woods. Winter wonderland. Even though we can't ski in it, it is still super to be able to run in. And really nice to be back in running country. The desert was interesting but... And SF was fun and great to visit because of Senya and her parents but nowhere to run. At least not our kind of run. From their place you can run roads and get plenty of hill work or flat but it's all city blocks. Or catch the bus to the parks and deal with that. Their previous place was close to Golden Gate Park which was very runnably close by, but also in the fog zone. This place is nice and sunny - at least during our visit. But then they are projecting a move to SLC this summer. We'll see about that.

| Note | ||
| Long travel day. This trip has taken us from the 80s in Tucson to the 60s in SF and we arrived in Hartford near midnight with the temp at 10 - fearing the arrival at home and the need to dig out from the snows of our absence. Not much snow around the airport, some but grass showing through. That's not necessarily an indicator as we live in our own micro-snow belt and will have white stuff around the house long after neighbors are raking lawns. By the time we reach our street, the depth has increased to a foot or so along the edges of the road and as we approach our section, ti's at 2 to 3'. Gradually approach the drive - and it has been cleared!!!! Some nice neighbor has cleared our drive. Whoopee. Not sure who and we seldom see anyone around, but a round of thank yous go out to some nice benefactor. We think there may have been 7 or 8" of snowfall but that was followed by some rain and a week of consolidation so there was 3-4" on the parts of the drive not cleared. It was well frozen on and there was a good hard foot at the end of the drive from the plows. So the midnight exercise of getting the car off the road would have been a good workout. Instead we crashed into bed. | ||

| We walked down to the neighborhood Taqueiria to bring some dinner back to their place. (I'm sure I will be butchering the spelling on this comment. Sorry Cristina.) My son guided me towards a chicken mole burrito which was delicious. He was proudly carrying Senya in a shoulder sling and of course the ladies behind the counter had to know all about her. They asked if she was his first. Yes and also his - pointing to me. They declared me Abuelito and when Lyn came up with her order, she became Abuelita. Was great fun. They were really nice. | ||

| Hiking hills 1:00:00 [1] | ||
| shoes: Salomon XA 2 | ||
| Neighborhood tour of SF plus general getting around all day - 65, sunny, gorgeous day on the Bay. Guess this is why everyone loves SF. The main hike was in the afternoon from Bob's place at the Castro up to Buena Vista Park and back down any up to another park to check out a hawk sitting on a rail. Beautiful clear day with views of everything. Senya enjoyed the tour sleeping in a snuggly sling on Daddy while Mom made the most of sleep time.
Main thing is Granny is lovin' it. Been a few years since she's had a little thing to mind. Back is still acting up - mainly seems to seize up when I sit for any length of time and takes a while to loosen up. This is one of the old parts that is not a benefit.

| Note | ||
| Off to SF to visit with gorgeous Granddaughter-O. Pleasant evening with the parents while Granny played with the babe having way too much fun. Oh and did I mention that she is a really pretty little thing!!! Totally unbiased viewpoint.
But then - during the night my back spasmed a little bit. Sitting waiting for the flight it decided to really seize up and has persisted all day. Have tried to stretch it out plus Vit M. Maybe a good night sleep in our very funky B&B.
