Sunday May 18

Strength 1:00:00 [1]
weight:148lbs
Garden time - 65, hazy sun getting hazier, then clouded over and finally light drizzle. As the drizz became more evident, the itches became more annoying and finally realized I was under attack by no-see-ums. It was at this point that lunch was called and that was that.
Re-turned over the remaining rows of the garden to bury the remaining strands of rye and get ready for summer crops (if I can find some at the gdn ctrs). Then turned over the compost pile and came under attack. That was that.

Saturday May 17

Event: WCOC Huntington meet

Trail run warm up/down 10:00 [1]
weight:149lbs shoes: VJ Twister
65, sunny -
Jogging a bit before and stretching.
Orienteering race 1:44:28 [3] *** 7.7 km (13:34 / km)
spiked:18/26c shoes: VJ Twister
Huntington Red - NW corner of map, a nice open and gradual section of the park. Just subtle enough to be quite confusing and a good training challenge. This course by Petr Polivka lived up to the challenge, presenting a continuous array of very interesting legs. Wish I could say I met them all well, guess I could say I met some much better than others as a look at the split list will show. A fine day. Will have to back and rerun this some time.

Red - Splits

Friday May 16

Trail run 27:00 [1] 3 km (9:00 / km)
weight:149lbs shoes: VJ Sport, no studs
Munnisunk Woods - 60, gray
Quick, easy run through woods to trail system and back to keep legs loose. L hamstring acting up a little, just an ache at this point but much like it started last year. It will probably continue to malinger into my twilight zone when I won't care anymore.

Stretched some after, both the hams and the piriformis.

Thursday May 15

Strength (nycb 2) 55:00 [1]
weight:149lbs
Normal routine. Seemed to reactivate the latent aches in the hip area, fortunately nothing serious.

Wednesday May 14

Trail run warm up/down 25:00 [1] 2.2 km (11:22 / km)
weight:149lbs shoes: Attack II
Munni Woods to Horse Tr - 65, sunny.
Up road to woods and in to Horse trail, then some stretching.

After intervals, ran on to Y off trail, exploring some of the woods S of the Y. Nice vague area, semi-open woods with some wet and a few trails.
Trail run intervals 20:00 [4]
shoes: Attack II
Trail repeats - Thought I'd try some speed work using the FR as a guide. Plan was 4x400m with 2' rcy. Not the best system; will have to figure out how to set the work out parameters. Did learn several new things about the FR that might help along the way.

Anyway, splits:
430m 2.38 (hesitated at trail crossing) rcy 1.14
400 1.49 2.03
400 1.46 7.00 (through woods to other trail to Y)
410 1.56 (crossed road & had to jump downed tree) 2.00

Distances are from SportTrack which gives k to two decimal places. Interestingly, Garmin TC gives distance to cm's but is shorter overall by .35k.

Stretching 30:00 [0]
At the Y, general stretch stuff of hamstrings, glutes, quads. Plus the ab routine.

Tuesday May 13

Hiking long 2:00:00 [1]
weight:150lbs shoes: XA Comp 2 XCR
Westledge Ridge - 70, sunny. Nice day so we decided to do a hike on the Hedgehog trail section in W Simsbury's highlands. Planned to do a loop over the ridge S to Masters School and come back up the valley to the waterfalls and return to the car on Saddle Ridge. Being good orienteers, of course we left the map and compass safely at home. The ridge trail is well marked with good views of the Talcott Ridge and N on up to Mt Tom and beyond. Tried to spot Phil hanging controls but he must have been running intervals. We kind of missed the loop coming back as it is not an official trail and the old road we were on died. We wound up back on the ridge rather than around the bend and up the valley. Oh well. Nice day for an easy hike for Lyn trying to get repaired.
C • intervals? 2

Monday May 12

Cycling warm up/down (Recumbunt) 10:00 [1]
weight:149lbs
Warm up with a reasonable spin, pushed 100 revs for a couple minutes.

Won't count the 20' mowing during MwM although it was another encounter this spring with a small engine pretending that winter was continuing and it was too soon to come out of hibernation. This was a "self-propelled" model, definitely one of the poorer inventions of the modern age: heavy, plodding, generally not fun. But seeing as how the grass was going to seed and 6-8" high, figured it needed it. Serves me right - fertilized it last week!
Stretching 30:00 [0]
Series of stretches and strength things with focus on hips, butt, glutes, piriformis, squats, even some back extensions per the Charlie machine.
