Sunday Jul 6 | ||
| Trail run 1:15:00 | ||
| weight:146lbs shoes: Mizuno Inspire | ||
| Horse-Purple, long loop - 74, v humid, foggy in low parts, wet trail.
Trouble getting going. Reasonable surge along Esker, but a slog to turn-off to Spring Pond. Tried to suggest cutting it short if this was the best I could do. Lyn was in the "as long as we out" mode. So we kept going. To change things, suggested strides and picked up the pace along the next stretch of really nice path. With the rain, the pine needles and leaves are so soft under foot. If you can avoid the wet roots, this was a very fine run. Kept up the strides, in long stretches, rest off way though ran out of steam back on Horse tr. AOWN - 3 Goods = 1. We seem to have tenants in our Wren house. Lots of activity and chittering away all morning. Lots of wrens around but haven't been in the house till now. 2. While stretching, I looked up and 50m away was a large deer just looking at me. Must have realized I saw him as he bolted after a bit. 3. Further along a Blue Heron took off along the stream and landed in a tree branch. The bads - lots of people out today, and walking dogs. Worse, they all seem to bath in Citronella juice. What a foul lingering smell.
| Hiking (Mowing) 1:00:00 [1] | ||
| Fast effort in heat and humidity, trying to get as much done as possible before the gas ran out! Didn't think there was much/enough and grass got really long and thought I would at least get the visible stuff. Made it all the way but was really dripping by the end, cotton shirt and all.
Later went for a walk around the block, not counted, as Lyn clomplained of leg cramps.

| Scattered bits so far today as our schedule got somewhat on holiday somehow. What's a holiday? | ||
| woods run warm up/down 42:00 [1] | ||
| ahr:120 weight:146lbs shoes: Attack II | ||
| Beaver Triangle - Over/back, stretch. 65, gray, v humid, wet footing. | ||
| woods run hills 26:24 [4] | ||
| ahr:153 max:168 shoes: Attack II | ||
| Beaver Reentrant, same as 6/27 - woods wet with slippery sticks to contend with.
Wanted to increase reps and thought I did 4x last week. Turns out was 5x. But did get 6x in today at more consistent pace. Guess I know the route. 1 1.50 2 1.52 3 1.51 4 1.49 5 1.49 6 1.49 Took 2.30 for the first down, up 3' for the last two. Running felt hard today. Maybe too much sleep, or the gray muggy weather. Was cool so should have been about right. Will try to add some more next time. Dist/time is about right.

| weight:147lbs shoes: DS Trainer XII | ||
| Horse-Purple loop - 75, clear sunny, dry. Cooler in the woods but more humid.
Dinner - more later -Salmon and can't keep it waiting! Later;-} Yum. Where was I? Oh- Good run. Started off easy, then worked the rises along the Esker section to the Purple. A long push to the trail down to Spring Pond. Another up to the Summit tr and on down to the Main Rd, and again to the bridge. Kind of worked the hill section and then a final surge on the road. Felt really good running for a change. Not much deterioration on the final road section though a slight funky strike at first but settled out and got good long strides.
| Stretching 30:00 [0] | ||
| Evening Round - Same stretches plus she added the Cobra and a kowtow.
Rehab session this afternoon - Had a stiffness in the R lumbar section. Same as back in Apr and over the years, partly due to running through the woods while trying to duck under branches and laurel, etc, as if haven't done much of that lately. So got some ultrasound (It's a boy?) in the area and some new non-stretches, more of relaxations of the area to ease that section.
Tuesday Jul 1 | ||
| Stretching 20:00 [0] | ||
| Morning round. Back a bit tight. | ||
| woods run 1:09:00 | ||
| weight:149lbs shoes: Mizuno Inspire | ||
| Mcleans - 80, clear, sunny, dryish. Nice day for a run exc I may have a touch of sun burn on the scalp from the yard work yesterday. Didn't have a hat and forgot sun screen. Duh - and on anti-biotics for the tick attacks too, making for more sun sensitivity.
Started as a slow, sluggish day and run after we broke the abstinence of the past while as an end of a long day reward, a light beer and major part of some boojalay;-} Was good at the time; but took half way round the run to get out of the funk. In the end was a nice run. Lyn had run off to the Y to swim, but I didn't have that in me. So headed off to the Purple/Horse Tr route, stretched, and then went exploring through sections of woods that haven't been to or not been to in a while. Came across some really neat feature and woods that could really do with an O bag if they would ever relent and allow us to play there. Unfortunately doesn't seem likely. As the fog cleared, started to try to push the pace through the woods, without bashing up the legs too much. Got back to find Lyn doing battle with chipmunks which are in a good supply this year.
| Note | ||
| Broke down and bought Back Sufferers Bible. Bit late, Greg recommended it last year at Crandall Park. Have been doing some of the exercises anyway. Nice explanations of the spine and how it works, and how it doesn't, and more important - what to do about it. | ||
Monday Jun 30 | ||
| Stretching 10:00 [0] | ||
| weight:148lbs | ||
| Round 1 in morning. Back sore a bit, possibly from not stretching after the runs Sunday? Or bec of the runs Sunday? Or just tired. Stretching helped. | ||
| Strength 1:00:00 [0] | ||
| MwM - Major work day today. We have been trying to get the yard under control, garden weeding/dead-heading, trim shrubs, along with house maintenance tasks etc. All have been on the neglected side for the last bunch of years. She insists on staying there, so we might as well try to keep it in reasonable shape, as she no longer is capable of much. Today, Lyn attacked a quince bush in the front and some flower gardens along the side. I went after a rhododendron clump in the back that had taken over. After the mt laurel struggles yesterday, this was not a good day to be in the path of me and pruning shears. Major surgery time. Once in the range of 15' diam mass, has been down sized to three stumps with a few leaves protruding. | ||
| Note | ||
| Just a brief reflection on my part today, was more so yesterday, but ten years ago today was my last day of employment, or at least getting up and going off to an office every day. As one friend like to say: Not retirement; graduation - to the next stage. Actually this stage has been quite fine: primarily in pursuit of little orange and white things hung in the woods, although some are starting to stray into more urban terrain, and into an expanding world - from CT to the Northeast, down towards DC and on to GA, out to CO and WY, CA and AZ, ventures to foreign places such as Canada and Europe. It has been a wonderful time, meeting lots of great people along the way. Looking forward to more in the next ten! Hope you all can keep up;-} | ||
