| Beaver Triangle and South Mcleans
Lyn and I ran a series of point to point controls legs, choosing a feature 300-500m away and taking different routes so as not to prejudice each other (read confuse). Then we would go over our routes and pick another target and plan. Variable woods with fair amount of downed trees and slash in parts. Should be good training for Sweden. Not much in the way of features in the area except fairly big spurs and reentrants though we did use the one mappable rock in the whole region of that part.

| About 8 laps. Definitely hard; been a long time; not really fun. | ||
| Note | ||
| Been reading "Overtreated" which seems to be summarized in a recent Consumers Report. Would study it very carefully before seeking any "cool" treatments. | ||
Thursday Jul 10 | ||
| Trail run long 1:30:00 [2] | ||
| weight:146lbs shoes: Attack II | ||
| Waterfall Loop, with return on South Trail to Beaver Tr - 74, clear, dry, N breeze when back on the road.
Nice long run. We both commented going out about tired legs, but as we progressed they started to cooperate and realize it would be a long time till coffee if they didn't do their part. Coming back got into a fine stride on one longer flatish section - fun. The diversion to the S tr led to the stream. Sometimes it has logs across as a bridge, but lately there haven't been any. Today was of the lately version. But by then we were hot and the cool water felt good. I waded in to enjoy it. Lyn took her shoes off, which was fine as the rest was welcome. Days like this, contrary to days like yesterday, remind us of why we live where we do, and do what we do. We keep thinking about moving to downsize but have yet to find comparable play grounds.

| W Simsbury/Firetown loop - 85, even more humid.
Easy spin around loop. Hills a bit easier. Today and yesterday remind me of why I switched from lunch-time runs at work to bike rides. AOWN - Going along Firetown, a brown blur caught my eye on the side of the road. Looked back and then had to stop. The veg along the road had grown up to about 3-4' high. There, right on the edge of the road, in the veg up to mid-hip, was a deer. When I stopped, it stood there and looked at me, about 40m away, and carried on. And so did I.
| Stretching 30:00 [0] | ||
| 20' before dinner; 10' before bed.
No back ailments this morning so that all helps, I hope.
| Hiking 15:00 [1]1.2 mi (12:29 / mi) | ||
| Around the block after dinner. Picked it up a bit as started to sprink half way around.
Although don't seem to get the foot drop while running, I get some while walking, at least in these shoes (new Salomons). Also get a bit of shin splint in the L shin in area with the numbness. Guess that's why the Dr was so concerned - would have given me a good spanking if he dared.

| Morning round - full plus some extra. Sore lower back in the morning these days so worked on that. Seems to loosen up during the day. | ||
| Road run warm up/down 20:00 [1] | ||
| shoes: DS Trainer XII | ||
| Westminister Fields - Couple laps around the fields to loosen up, plus some stretches, strides.
Soccer camp going on all over the playing fields (girls) but only one guy on the track and he finished just before I started.
| Road run intervals (Quarters) 35:00 [4] | ||
| ahr:150 max:178 shoes: DS Trainer XII | ||
| Westminster Track - HOT! No time for Old Men. 85 (at home in the shade), humid, full sun with some hazy clouds, lt S wind, 11 am. Lyn was smart and ran to the pool.
Decided to have a "Break" Day and try quarters. Should have run in the wodos probably, but once started, it was over fairly quickly. Then just rehydrate as left water in the car. Plan: 8x 400/200 jog Wasn't sure about this, in these conditions, but managed ok. Rcy was easy jog half round for next start. Waited for 2' total rcy as usually recover to HR<130. The jog only got it into the 140s so waited and it dropped into 130s. That was enough. Last couple was longer as it wasn't dropping and time was extending so went for more rcy. Noticed HR of 68 or 88 during these. Either bad connection (bad solder joint?) or battery going.

| Hiking 30:00 [1]3.0 mi (10:00 / mi) | ||
| Beaver Triangle Roads - Evening walk after dinner. Too hot just to hang around house so went out to loosen up legs and see creatures - none around except a few bugs and a few swallows or bats. Lots of traffic though - scary in the growing darkness. | ||
| Stretching 10:00 [0] | ||
| Evening round - Noted some foot drop during walk, so important to keep these going, and to log so can keep track! | ||
