Stretching 20:00 [0]
Morning routine now.
Trail run warm up/down 30:00 [1]
shoes: XA Comp 2 XCR
Jogging around to loosen up, stretch, strides, jog around checking out start run (remote triangle and map pickup) and finish run (along the parking area.
Orienteering race 44:06 [4] *** 3.47 km (12:43 / km) +85m 11:19 / km
spiked:11/14c shoes: XA Comp 2 XCR
Etape 6 - Plo de las Conquas, Mas de Reynal - (N section of map used for Day 5) -70, clear, very windy again

More detailed veg features again the story of the day. OK run but bobbled:
1. Confused fence on map with trail and had trouble making sense of the start. Chase start with a run, on the clock, of about 230m to map pickup/start triangle. Figured out where I was but the broken down fence symbol looked like a trail. Saw the fence and couldn't place that on the map. Looked for the trail but not there. Fortunately figured out the veg and in.
Careful and settled down, taking it slowly. Until
9. Total loss! Not sure where I went. Started well with good features to follow. Think I just forgot the scale and didn't check the compass as I contoured around a fairly open spur - way too far. Printing of the contour lines was very faint and didn't help. (Threre were also complaints about the faint blue Mag N lines.) Anyway, I had a couple chances to correct but felt confident and went. Boy can that lead to errors! Mooched around in green checking out rock formations for about 5' before popping out and seeing a good spousal savior. Didn't provide an exact location but enough to see I was about 100m S, not 150m NW, of the control.

G - 5th on day and maintained 5th Overall
Lyn got 3rd overall. So we both got up for the awards ceremony, done in parallel by age groups. So H65 and D65 got up together. Have to work harder next time as she got a very nice bottle of wine, which we enjoyed.

Etape 5 - Les Bouzogasses, Mas Reynal - 1:5000 Scale - 60, very windy, variable cloudy.
Took a bit to get into map scale. Then good run. V careful with detail, planning route, trying to stay in contact.
1- Bobble a bit to start, caught behind slow kids going thru veg break which I shouldn't have gone through! Eased up.
2- Went low to L then up.
5- not sure about mid section of leg, but recognized rocky dot knolls and relocated.

Note
(rest day)
Rest day and finally found Internet at McDs with a very nice cup of French coffee. Have had a great week so far. The O is fantastic! Very technical and detailed. We have been on1:7500 maps so far with 1:5000 the last two days, and it is still hard to keep track.

More details will come but for now we head off to a cool stream in Nant for r&r.

Wednesday Aug 6
