| Trail run warm up/down 5:00 [1] | ||
| weight:142lbs shoes: VJ Twister | ||
| TBV - Short jog to end of road and back to loosen up. | ||
| Orienteering race 1:33:28 [3] *** 6.9 km (13:33 / km) | ||
| spiked:13/17c shoes: VJ Twister | ||
| TBV - 75, sunny, clear, dry, marshes dry.
Nice to be back in CT woods. Took a few controls to get back into it - can't just run and see the bag - DUH! Nice course with some good subtle route choices of interest. Bobbled a couple short legs, 3,4,5, then settled down. Great day in the woods. - except for blisters, big ones on both heels. Haven't worn these shoes since Sweden and they must have shrunk during the drying process after the marshes. Feet also seem to prefer running shoes to the tight o-shoes. Time to htfu.

| Strength (nycb 2) 55:00 [1] | ||
| weight:141lbs | ||
| Tired and a bit lethargic this morning, not really into it. Did it anyway. | ||
| Stretching 20:00 [0] | ||
| Haven't been doing this as regularly as I should. Butt gave a hint of soreness during some of the nycb routine. Time to get back to reality. | ||
Friday Aug 29 | ||
| Trail run long 1:06:00 [2] | ||
| weight:140lbs shoes: DS Trainer XII | ||
| Horse Tr-Purple Loop - 72, grey with bits of blue sky, humid - nice to be back from the dry.
Really nice run. It's so nice to be back in the woods and this run just felt fine, a nice continuous effort. It felt easy with nice flow. Not sure why. Maybe it was just being back on nice trails again, or being rested a day off running, or the reduced weight (WTF is with that??!! Soon there will barely be a shadow!), or the intimacy of the woods with the visibility reduced from miles of open spaces to mountains to just the glade of the present. And the trails with firm footing helped - just one short sandy section that reminded us of our visit. I can even deal with the roots and uneven-ness. All of which made for a fine day.

| Hiking 30:00 [1] | ||
| Mowed both Manchester and home trying to catch up from trip. This is a brief bit of the time.
The main headache now is trying to get an internet connection working. I can connect for email through my home wifi but have to poach to get internet service. That signal is not strong enough for Touching so can't send myself notes from the trip. It's acting up anyway which isn't helping the spirits. Why can't we just go back to smoke signals.

| Granite Neighborhood - 70, clear
Easy run around the neighborhood before the last chores and heading to the airport. The streets are a maze and require careful map study to prevent much dead-ending. Started by checking out the front of the house across the backyard ravine. Took a bit to determine the house as the houses are close and this one was over-grown on the sides. But we could just make out a section of their upper story and got our bearings. The front was much like the back, probably well taken care of at one time. Now the daughter lives there and doesn't seem to have the passion of the parents. The backyard, visible from Bob's, has a network of paths built into the slope with a waterfall descending down and a series of lights. It has grown up a lot too so not much is really visible. Then off along the streets and wound up on the North Rim Trail in Granite Park again though missing most of the ups. Serious up training could be done here. A nice run but we miss the woods. Too much street stuff. Too much "groomed" trails and woe be to anyone that tries to go off trail - very dense with nasties. Views are great but not enough.

| Granite Park,Sandy, UT -65, clear, but hazy. A grass fire burned up a canyon S of us yesterday and smoke was still rising from it.
Headed back over to the park and we decided to give the bottom of the valley a try. Couldn't find a reasonable switchback trail down and wound up going straight down a steep, very sandy trail to the horse trail at the bottom along the dry creek bed. Quite pleasant both from cooler temps early in the am and the shady trail. Nice long run along the bottom. Of course what goes down must be made up in effort against gravity. Ran along for quite a ways looking for an up trail that was other than straight up. Finally went for it - straight up of the sort that too much push would negate the effort and you would slide back to your start. Lyn tried a hand crawl technique with some success; I went for a spread eagle footing. Got back up to the North Rim Tr and completed the loop, much like last Thurs finish. Then back to finish up our assigned chores.

| Trail run 30:00 [1] | ||
| shoes: Attack II | ||
| Granite Park - 75, bright sun. Need to get out earlier if we are
to do a longer run as it quickly gets hot without any shade. Up to the park and on E on the wood chip trail to overlook Dimple Dell Rd, bizarre place with steep drop off into the ravine. Then back. Spent the morning hanging other shed door. Then cut the last foam panels for Lyn to sew up.
