Trail run warm up/down 5:00 [1]
shoes: Attack II
Pawtuckaway - Jogging around a bit before the start to get a little bit warmed up, not enough, but better than none.
Orienteering race 52:10 [4] *** 4.6 km (11:20 / km)
spiked:8/11c shoes: Attack II
P'way Green - 70, clear, lots of very wet water features after 6" of rain from Hannah overnight.

Much better run. Will have to act closer to my age from now on. Not sure about that "playing with the kids" bit yesterday. Today was on Big Island and I had a couple lapses. In the past I have had quite a bit of trouble here with the vague terrain, limited features and greenery that limited visibility. Today found good running lanes and for the most part kept in touch, planning out each leg, except for slight bobble at end of #4 when I came up short and low, 5 - again bit short and low and 8, drifted slightly L. That's unusual as I have trouble going R normally. Played tag with Wendy J during 5,6,7,8 and part of 9. As usual in those instances, this turned out to be a saving in part and a distraction in part and an incentive to try to go too fast. Overall a useful experience. Quite different from the European adventures when there are so many people and all unknown that they are never really a distraction, just ignore everyone.
Second in the end to Bob L who had a fine run of 45'. Well done.

Event: UNO Annual Camping Weekend

Orienteering race 2:20:00 [2] *** 6 km (23:20 / km)
spiked:12/16c shoes: VJ Twister
Pawtuckaway Camping W.E. - Red - 75, very humid, wet woods after early morning rain. Sun even tried to break out through the humidity a couple times.

What was I thinking? Red! At P'way! Are you crazy? Turns out to be an understatement. Had some very nice legs for this effort, and certainly got my money's worth of time on a course. But , then there was a lapse or two.... Ran comfortably for a good part of this and read the woods pretty well. But, the lapses:
First, turns out had one before even starting - circled wrong little hill for #6. Spent an extra 10' or so circling around verifying the circled hill didn't have a bag before concluding I probably mismarked the map. Oops.
#3. Had a good run going but got sloppy at the stream crossing in not recognizing the "precise" location for the final attackpoint. Wandered for a fair while before relocating. Extra 5'
#11 - Again had a goo run going around the E side of the marshes. Just didn't recognize the turning point and kept going around Upper Hold. Recognized my location just before the E end of that pond at the water marsh feature on the E side of it. Figured at that point I'd cross the beaver dam if it were there; otherwise head on. It was there, so was pretty easy to complete the rest of the course. Just an extra 15' or so.
So extra 30' or so putting me in line with the "real" Charlie time, not the agressive 64' claimed in some quarters;-}

Oh - and the blisters developed last weekend which seemed to recuperate during the week, didn't fully! Sort of irritated during this walk/run effort. Took shoes off to find the dead skin from those blisters loose, a 1" diam chunk off both heels. Cut the rest away and they were fine. Switched shoes for Sunday just in case, and to try trail shoes in these woods.
Stretching 10:00 [0]
Late night stretch in tent as heavens opened. Lower back was sore, so tried to work lower back and hip muscles.

Red Day 1 - Splits

Trail run intervals 34:00

Beaver Trail (out/back) - 70, very humid.

Early morning run on second shift after Lyn got back. Felt pretty good. Got into a good stride and did series of speed strides: 20-30 paces hard/30-40 paces easy, on way out and then again on way back.

Fun running this early (went out at 7) and watching all the commuters heading to work or school. Cooled off sitting on the front porch, again watching the neighbors head off.;-}

Another nothing day - just talking to a lawyer, an old high school class mate of all things, and visiting an assisted living place - grim, like a warehouse for old people (I mean really old people). Depressing. Can't wait to run in the rain at Pawtuckaway.

Horse tr to cw around Main loop to Main Ent, then Horse Tr.

Tried to push for long intervals. Start at first bridge to first junc (6:50), rest ~1', Pushed from junc up ski hill to junc at base of Summit Tr (3:53), rest 1:06. From Junc to bridge beyond Trout Pond (9:18) rest 2:17, From gate to Canton Rd Ent (13:38). Hard run. Felt good for the first few but struggled on the last bit.

Solo run and not the same. Miss my partner. Concerned about leaving the house unattended for now. Will have to see how things progress.

easy day. After doing not much all day but some paper work, like pay bills and prepare press release for Pavi's event, and trying to oil the squash beetles attacking the zuke's and yellow squash, decided it was time to do a little bit. So did an eve ing stretch.
